I'm slowly banging my head against the wall.
I've spent the last few weeks trying to figure out why Tomb Raider II stutters and lags on my Windows 98SE systems.
Framerate is fine but every few seconds, the game freezes for just a few frames and then continues to run perfectly normally.
The exact same version (copied the game folder) runs flawlessly on my Windows 95 machine.
Is there anything known about this issue?

Systems I tested:

PC1 - has TR2 stutters
ASUS TX97-E, newest BIOS
Pentium MMX 233
64MB SD RAM
SB AWE64 Gold
Riva128 + Voodoo2 (also tried a Voodoo1 before and had the same issue)
Windows 98SE

PC2 - has TR2 stutters
ASUS P5A, newest BIOS
AMD K6-3+ 570
128MB SD RAM
SB AWE64 Gold
GF 2Ti + Voodoo2 SLI (stuttering with both cards)
Windows 98SE

PC3 - works perfectly fine
ASUS SP97-V
Pentium-S 133
32MB EDO RAM
SB 16
S3 Trio64V+ & Voodoo1
Windows 95B

Tomb Raider II (german version) with Patch 2 installed.
Fun fact: When I convert my PC1 HDD to .IMG and use a quite similar configuration in 86Box, TR2 runs fine.

This drives me insane.

Okay, I just uninstalled everything, wiped the registry, reinstalled TR2 v1.0 from CD, patched it with Patch #2 and applied an ancient nocd patch.
Now the stutter reduced to such a minimum that it is only barely noticable, which is great. But it's still not as smooth as my Pentium 133 rig.
