Hello everyone. I've used DOSBOX for many of my old apps, and haven't had any problems yet. I however can't seem to get Gone Fishin' working properly. The compatibility list says it's supported, but i can't it to run the setup.exe or game executable. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your reply MiniMax. I have used DosBox before several times for various games and never had a problem. It's just the one game right now.

Read my 60 Seconds Guide to DOSBox (and don't just read it - follow it too).

If that doesn't help, come back with details on how you mounted your C and D drives, how you did the install, how you configured sound, music etc.

Hi guys, sorry to bring up an old thread, but I'm having the exact same problem. I've followed every dosbox guide possible, tried installing using both downloaded files and the physical CD, but no matter what I try I always get a ERROR READING CONFIGURATION FILE : # 5 when trying to install the game.

I followed the 60 seconds guide to DOSBox to the letter, and followed any other advice I could find on the subject, but to no avail. I'd like to think that maybe Gone Fishin' just isn't supported, but I do know other people have successfully got it to play, so I was just wondering if anyone knew where us Gone Fishin' fans are going wrong? Thanks anyways.

Instead of saying you tried everything, could you perhaps say exactly what you're trying now?

If you are mounting the game's directory as C:\ instead of the game's parent directory (i.e. C:\whatever\GONEFISH instead of C:\whatever), that could very well be the problem.

If all else fails, you can use a debug-enabled version of DOSBox to try to determine what file the game is trying (and failing) to access.

Error 5 occurs when the game is run from a location other than what is specified in the gfish.cfg RUNPATH= line.
That makes me think that you did not mount your drive in the same way to run the same as to install the game.

Hey guys, thanks for the speedy replies, and apologies for not being a pro Dosboxer, it's just this game is the only one to date I've had any problems with.

When trying to install from downloaded files I'm mounting C: as "C:\DOS". Then I access C: and type "cd gonefish" and try to run setup, but thats when I'm greeted with the error. Same goes for when I use mount D "E:\" -t cdrom and try to run from disc.

the gfish.cfg file contains:
[Path]
CDDRIVE=F
RUNPATH=c:\dosgames\GONEFISH
INSTPATH=d:\GONEFISH\PROGRAM

I'm guessing thats probably nowhere near correct. And if I'm being a 'nooby retard' with all this I do apologise.

Wait, you downloaded it? From... a warez site?
If so, then the tech support stops here.
And yes, your configuration file is completely wrong.

I have the original disc from 1995, but when I failed to get that to work I found a copy on abandonware...is that not kosher or something?
What would I need to change in the cfg file to allow it to work?

You need to install it from within dosbox and then use the same mountings for running the game.
Read and follow the 60 seconds guide in the dosbox guides forum and it should work with your original CD.

Thanks for the help guys. The cfg. file was just being screwy, so just changed the values to
CDDRIVE=C
RUNPATH=C:\GAME
INSTPATH=C:\GAME\PROGRAM
After creating a new folder for it all and installing it in there instead.

Thanks anyways.
