Hi all,

I have a complete original XTREE package from 1985, DOS version 1.x.

It includes:

  • the original 5.25" floppy disk
  • paper sleeve
  • instruction/cover sheet
  • red XTREE owner notice card
  • the original plastic retail box
  • the printed manual

The disk label only states “XTREE – The New Standard in File and Directory Management” and “1985 Executive Systems, Inc.”
There’s no explicit version number printed, but based on the date and packaging it seems to be one of the early 1.x releases (possibly 1.0 - 1.06).

I don’t currently have a floppy disk drive, so the disk is untested.
Before doing anything with it, I wanted to check with the preservation community here:

Is this specific 1.x release already archived anywhere
If not, what’s the recommended way to safely dump the disk
Should the manual and packaging also be scanned for preservation
Are there preferred tools or individuals here who can assist with imaging 40‑year‑old media
I can provide photos of the disk, manual, box and inserts if needed.

Thanks for any guidance on how best to preserve this.

i believe winworld has a 1.06. if it doesnt say 1.06 it might be a 1.0 which is worth archiving!
