Hey everyone, I’m running into a really strange (and bizarre) issue...

I have a Radeon HD2600PRO AGP card that uses a standard 4-pin Molex connector for extra power—so far, so good. But the "bizarre" part is that it ONLY works on Intel systems...

I tested it on my Pentium III 1.4 Tualatin, Pentium 4 671 (3.8GHz, LGA775), and Pentium 4 2.8GHz (Socket 478), and it works on all of them.

However, on my AMD setups—specifically Athlon XP systems with chipsets like NVIDIA nForce2 Ultra 400, VIA KT400/KT600, SiS 741/741GX, etc.—it ALWAYS freezes while loading Windows XP SP3...

I used the same OS disc, the same Catalyst driver, and everything else was identical; it simply only works on Intel...

Does anyone have any ideas on what I could do to get it working on my Athlon XP setups?

Thanks!

• Pentium III Tualatin 1.4GHz // Asus TUV4X // 1,5GB (3x512MB) SDRAM-PC133 // ATI HD2600PRO // Seagate 80GB IDE // Windows XP SP3

Try to use Catalyst 14.4

And there is also a well-known but long-forgotten issue.
For later versions of the Catalyst AGP drivers, a processor without SSE2 instructions cannot run at 1.9GHz or higher.

Ok, you can speak for I try catalyst 14.4?? I´ve tried a lot of catalyst drivers on AMD´s systems, but no success.

The theory of not have SSE2 instructions looks fine, but how explain the Pentium III-S 1.4GHz Tualatin working great in AGP4x with Asus TUV4x and the same HD2600PRO, the same Windows XP SP3 CD, same optical and HDD drive...

I´m completelly lost in this..

Those seem like kind of late cats to be using. When I was mucking around with HD6850s for OpenCL a dozen years back, it was a 12.x.x that was doing best with them in an AM2. I think you need to be down around an 8.xx or so.

Just checked, last one that mentions 2000 series is 10.2, maybe there's a legacy version of something later, but that's where I would be trying to run this card.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

<1.9GHz
Then you should try ATI Catalyst 7.7 for high clocked socket A CPU.

Ok I will try... can you find a secure link for download of catalyst 7.7 for XP 32bit?? The techpowerup and AMD sites are broken link...

Thanks!

The only problem might be that the driver's INF file doesn't specifically list the 2600 AGP.
You'll need to force installation through Windows Device Manager.
