I’m fully aware windows 98 can go nuts when drivers are installed incorrectly or not in specific order, being installing win98 on retro rigs that has official support for the OS. anyway after getting the os installed getting all the drivers usually start with the chipset drivers, sound drivers, graphics drivers, direct X 7/8/9 (i always use DX 8.1) then all the rest in random order. but i noticed after a while when i shutdown the pc, it hangs at the windows 98 is shutting down splash screen, and i tried the suggestions on vogons using the official win98 shutdown patch, change things in regedit few times, nothing. i even uninstall the sound card driver, since there known for causing errors due to IRQ conflicts or corrupt installation, still hangs. then by random I decided to install the game "Tonic Trouble" and during its installation it automatically installed an older version of indeo codec V5.0 probably due to incompatibility error with indeo codec that I installed which is V5.11 (along with the rest of the drivers) due to certain games cut scenes will not work. after getting installed with older version of indeo codec and the game works perfectly fine, when the i shut down the pc, it stopped hanging and shuts down properly. therefore, after days going back and forth its indeo codec driver that caused the hanging.
