I downloaded the beta patch allowing the 7th Guest to be run on Vista. It's working fine, except that there appears to be no sound effects or dialogue (even during the opening movie). Music, however, plays fine. Any ideas as to what might be causing this?

Thanks.

Yeah: The Windows player is garbage. Use DOSBox instead.

Yes, it’s my fault.

Thanks, but when I try to install it with DOSBox I immediately get the error "You do not have MSCDEX installed. Please consult the manual that came with your CD-ROM drive or SCSI adapter for instructions on how to install MSCDEX."

Any way to get around this?

Yeah; see the thing when you start DOSBox that says "For a short introduction for new users type: INTRO" ? Do it. Then read how to properly mount CDs.

Yes, it’s my fault.

So sorry - I searched immediately after posting that and found the solution. My bad!

Anyway, it's working fine now. Appreciate all the help.

When you tried to play with the windows patch did you set any compatibility mode? Try to play using Win95 compatibility mode.

I have followed the information here exactly, and when I run the "v32tng" file in the .zip download, a blank black window comes up then goes away then comes up and goes away, then i sometimes get a message saying "error reading RL file". then windows searches for a solution, finds nothing, and it closes completely. i am running v32tng in 95 comapitbility mode
