On my Windows XP build, I used trimcheck-0.7 to verify that my Samsung 850 Pro SSD was actually being trimmed by Samsung Magician 4.9.7, using the Performance Optimization utility. The Performance Optimization process appeared to complete successfully, but then trimcheck said that TRIM did not work.

I have verified that TRIM is enabled on the SSD. I am using AHCI.

I'm trying to determine if Samsung Magician is not trimming my SSD correctly, or if somehow trimcheck is giving me a false reading. Can I get some ideas on how to do that?

Hi, not sure, but I vagely remember that certain low-level things such as firmware updates only worked in PATA mode of an SATA port.
A few years ago, it was still possible to configure an SATA port in BIOS Setup.
It was possible to select Legacy/SATA/Native or something along these lines.
One of them was chipset specific (nforce chipsets had those weird option, I think).
But it's been a few years already. Another, a bit unrelated thing I remember is that Windows 7 didn't require a SATA driver to use TRIM.
The ordinary MS PATA driver also passed TRIM commands.

If anyone reading this is using a Samsung 840 or 850 SSD in Windows XP, can you please test Performance Optimization in Samsung Magician 4.9.5, 4.9.6 or 4.9.7?

1. Run trimcheck 0.7 on the drive letter corresponding to the Samsung SSD.
2. Run Performance Optimization on the SSD using Samsung Magician.
3. Rerun trimcheck 0.7 to see if it says TRIM was working or not.
