The fact that it gets anything right is cool

Worth keeping in mind that it is just a glorified curve fitting function. It's not reasoning or thinking the output is just a best guess based on training inputs.

now im thinking if they will put that stuff in casinos, remember that greco player tracker in oceans 13

Its interesting that those engaging with this thread so far all see AI as one of the chat bots.
Gemini, Copilot, ChatGPT to name but a few...

Why is that interesting?

FUCK "AI". It is a tool of fascism. We do not need it. We do not use it.

Yeah I got that, but if you can't be bothered expanding on it then it's not interesting, it's just a pointless comment.

Are you trying to say that you're an exception to a rule, and therefore a bit special?

Life? Don't talk to me about life.

i love the hilarity of what it outputs im thinking no way that cant be true. its like wrong answers only. It is useful as a last resort i wouldnt recommend using it everyday it does destroy your ability to think. Let me rephrase that it is the dunning kruger effect of thinking you know everything because an ai told you but you have to do the reasoning. It doesnt have common sense it cant sense, think. Logically its no more sentient than an android. Well ok I got too involved because I think one day machine and man are going to be equal ergo Cmdr Data from star trek.

I figure they are going to combine AI with cloud gaming and give you predicable local gaming har har har. I hate my life I advocated for DRM-free shit but they interpeted that as DRM Free-shit.

Not trying to say anything. I did write what I wrote. You can reword it to better understand it but it doesnt change what I wrote.

Most of my experience of AI is not a chat bot.
To be special you would have to shit rainbows and fart miracles 😉

Im not so sure thats true anymore.

I think the AIs give you what they think you want based on the way you frame the questions you give it.
I noticed this at work as people were trying to fact check something I said about current events in Europe. I wont bore you with what it was about but the response from the same AI was quite different based on the question.

I use Ai all the time for work. Helps me do things much faster and helped me automate a bunch of tasks. Helps me remember different commands and best way to set things up. Very useful IMO. Most people at work though use it to write emails because their English is atrocious.

Mostly Engrish. We have a ton of "new Canadians" now and why the heck did I spend all that time learning how to properly read and write and communicate , when now using proper English is almost racist. Anyway ....
Though there is a white Canadian that sounds very professional in emails but when she messages you on teams she sounds drunk.

I live in Niagara falls NY and I get the feeling that speaking Canadian French or American Spanish is the new norm

I don't like the direction this conversation is going with the last few posts. "Engrish" refers to a stereotype of Japanese people speaking heavily accented English, and "New Canadian" was a publication for the Japanese-Canadian community.

Of course, the ethnicity of whomever these jabs are aimed at doesn't matter. If someone doesn't speak perfect English to you, instead of getting offended because the sanctity of English is being violated, try keeping in mind that they might be communicating in their second or even third language, which they probably learned as an adult, when learning languages is dramatically more difficult. Why not be happy that they are there in your country trying to fit in and speak your language to you?

because the language barriers have broken down and we have translators on our phones that can interpret in real time. We dont have to learn languages anymore we just point and click. I figure AI would give us a leg up on how to structure words gramatically. It takes months to learn English well and proper but now you can pull out your phone with a local LLM on it and translate sentences on the fly. Written languages are difficult to master and now it will be relegated to archival work. Text to speech and Speech to speech programs exist to act as a universal translator. I dont think I fit in even in my own country because im defective. I use AI as a crutch to help me feel normal again sort of like an assistant who is with me 24 7. I dont get the slang of I guess the whole 6 7 debacle.

I love when people come and want to learn the language and fit in. its when they dont that it becomes issue. When me correcting their English is considered rude.
I don't know why you are uncomfortable with a topic like this. Criticism isn't hate or racism. I think a lot of people face the same frustrations these days

My wife came to Canada in 2017 but learned English before coming and her English has gotten far better over since. My dad though, his accent and English never really improved so for the most part I was good at hearing thick accents and interpreting it. He tried though and wanted me to correct him. I loved when he would stub a toe or something and shout "Sandbabitch!"

If we all had universal translators, then it wouldn't be an issue, but we don't have those yet. We cant stop and pull out a phone for every convo and at work you do have to talk face to face and cant use AI to generate your thoughts.
I was working one someone's laptop here and they had their desktop full of sticky notes with phrases. They would copy and paste the phrase and send it depending on what someone asked them.

I've only ever heard "Engrish" used to refer to the bad English that Chinese factories put in their instruction manuals. We don't make fun of the Japanese because they actually care enough to write proper English in the products they sell on the American market, and unlike the Chinese their products are consistently good.

World's foremost 486 enjoyer.

Side note: I enjoy committing violence unto my spoken English 😀
