Been having an inconvenient issue with my old Dell L566cx PC, the gameport on the back doesn't appear to be detected by FreeDOS and moreover causes minor issues in some games.
e.g. the DOS version of Mega Man X, which endlessly scrolls down on the main menu, or Prince of Persia, where I can start the game but the Prince remains locked, crouched in place even with Keyboard mode.
Additionally, from testing nullmodem games, the computer hangs before the game can even load.
I originally thought that SBEMU might have been the problem because I could nullmodem just fine without it running, but FreeDOS + SBEMU on a virtual machine was able to connect to real hardware (Toshi 445CDT) without issue.
After installing Win98 on a fresh drive today and plugging up a joystick that I know works not being detected, and a little more research, I suspect the gameport itself is actualy to blame.
I haven't tested the voltage of the port, but I have plugged in gameport controllers while the PC was on more than once.
How would I go about repairing a game port? Is there a resource for aftermarket components? Would it even be worth the effort?
Or are there services I could send the mobo out to for this to be fixed?
