Nice assortment of cards.

It was a Magical time back around the release of Win95
Between 1993-97
Huge assortment of motherboards, cards, and AT cases
Were available back then.

Windows 95 was developed to support the 486dx-33 CPU.
Runs best with at least 8mb of ram, 4x cdrom, sound blaster 16, and
1mb SVGA video card. 3com 3c509c-combo network card.
Plug and play installation with Win3x or Win95

From my experience Win95 is the Best OS for the 486 CPU
And old ISA/VLB hardware

^I agree with that. 😃

.. except for Windows 95 itself. I have mixed feelings about it.

Windows 95 RTM was buggy, but it had positive things, too.
The blue Setup wallpaper and the welcome melody, the network drivers, auto detect etc.

But Windows 95 also moved everything away from Windows 3.1x era and introduced DirectX,
which ended DOS gaming era. It took away the MIDI Mapper of Windows 3.x etc.

And I didn't like that, it was moving away from that pioneering 1990-1994 computing world
of a Sega Genesis/Sega CD, 3DO, Kodak PhotoCD, Philips CD-i etc and was taking everything with it.

Again, I have mixed feelings here. Windows 95 was a transitional time between 16<>32Bit era.
It still was mostly running 16-Bit software, but focussed on Win32.
Visual Basic 3 was still common during Win 95 times, for example.

Windows 95 was a bridge for legacy networks, too.
It could use an existing DOS network software and then load a Windows network driver and make them both talk to each others.

With Windows 95, the number of novice computer users increased dramatically, too.

By the time Windows 98/98SE came out, it was a mostly 32-Bit computing world.

No that is not true. MIDI Mapper was still available and you could assign each of the 16 channels to a different sound card.
That was removed in the NT based Windows operating systems.

The gradual death of the Microsoft MIDI Mapper (translation)

Edit: Perhaps it was more accurate if I said Windows 4..
Windows NT 3.x apparently still has the traditional MIDI mapper, too, just like normal Windows 3.1x has.
Windows NT 4 has it changed, comparably to Windows 95 (aka Windows 4.0).

Edit: Windows 3.0 MME has a MIDI Mapper, too, but I have little experience with MME.

Thanks! (It should hopefully be pretty interesting!)

That was indeed a great time.

I intend to get a 2.1GB Quantum Fireball for the machine which I'll dual partition to have Dos and Windows 3.1 on one partition and Windows 95 on the other.
