Woohoo, great work, that sounds much cleaner and a real fix not a bandaid.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

Funny thing is that this is even stated in the Voodoo chipset datasheet itself:

The attachment sst1_datasheet_p84.jpg is no longer available

So... the folks at 3dfx didn't read their own datasheet???

Would you consider looking at a different issue with the driver while you are in the code?
A while back Gmlb256 hex-edited Voodoo Graphics GLIDE2X.OVL, replacing the value used to compare the PCI device id from 1 (Voodoo Graphics) to 2 (Voodoo2) in several places when verifying the card. DOS Glide 2.4x Mod for Voodoo2
This enables the voodoo 1 dos driver to be used with voodoo 2, which enables some games e.g. Screamer 2 to work with a voodoo 2. This is the only way I can get Screamer 2 working with voodoo 2 on my setup, although currently I have to swap out the cpu to a slower one (from 900 to 766) to get it to start.
Might it be possible to alter the source so that your modified driver could work with a voodoo 1 or voodoo 2?

I don't have Screamer 2, so I don't know what the exact problem is. Can you fill me in on what's wrong with the 3dfx patch for that game?

Hi, @pyrogx,
And thanks a lot for founding out this driver solution for using Voodoo1 3D accelerator cards on systems with faster CPUs!

I have a (silly) question:
Could you give some more detailed information on GLIDE.DLL (this one is missing from Voodoo graphics driver kit 3.01.00 from 1999), GLIDE2X.OVL, GLIDE2X.DLL, GLIDE3X.DLL from the attachment in your post - which of these files are patched to run with faster CPUs?

Thank you!

They are all patched, I modified the source code and compiled completely new dlls from it. I didn't modify the original binary files from the driver kit, except for mm3dfx32.dll, where we do not have the source code for.

So, this has to be the best windows 9x/DOS 3dfx Voodoo1 driver out there. Thank you!

EDIT: Just tried the modified GLIDE2X.OVL with TR1 and Voodoo1, Voodoo2, Voodoo3 2000 cards. Only works as expected with Voodoo1 3D accelerator 🙁

Cleaned up the driver package a bit more. It now contains a proper glide.dll for older Glide 2.1.1 games like Mechwarrior 2, POD and Pandemonium.
I also had a look at the Voodoo2 drivers and created new glide dlls for V2s as well. The V2 driver package now contains several glide dll versions with either MMX, 3DNow or no optimizations turned on.
It also contains a special "Voodoo1 mode" compatibility GLIDE2X.OVL (in the v1compat subdirectory), which should work with some more stubborn 3dfx DOS titles like Screamer 2, making them playable on a Voodoo2.

Thanks, @pyrogx!

A briev report after quick test with TR1 on Voodoo2 3D accelerator card: GLIDE2X.OVL from " v2_win9x_fixed.zip" archive is checking for Voodoo1 card and refuses to work with the TR1 patch for Voodoo Rush on Voodoo2 card, but GLIDE2X.OVL from "v1compat" folder inside the same archive works fine with TR1 patch from Voodoo Rush on Voodoo2 card.
