Hi,
I've installed Windows 98 quickinstall edition on 86Box using this tutorial https://catskull.net/use-86box-for-windows-98-gaming.html, but my audio isn't working. There's no audio device in my windows 98 taskbar, I can't play sample sounds, and if I run an application it doesn't play audio. Under 'device manager' it shows my SB16, but it says 'This device is causing a resource conflict (Code 15).' (image linked below). I've also installed the SB16 PnP drivers using the iso from vogonsdrivers (Sound_Blaster_16_Value_PnP) and restarted my system to no avail. This is the hardware I'm using:

[3dfx Voodoo3 3500 SI]

dithersub = 1
dacfilter = 0
render_threads = 2

cpu_speed = 200000000

Let me know if you have any questions.

You can manually assign the I/O port, dma and irq in device properties of win98.

86Box is faithfully emulating the behavior of the ISA bus and PNP.

This is how I normally handle this on both 86Box and real systems with Award BIOS;

In The BIOS, navigate to the "PNP/ISA CONFIGURATION" menu, and set the following:
"PNP OS Installed" to "Yes"
"Resources Controlled By" to "Manual"
"IRQ-5 Assigned to" to "Legacy ISA"
"DMA-1 Assigned to" to "Legacy ISA"
"DMA-5 Assigned to" to "Legacy ISA"

Boot into Windows and uninstall all sound card drivers.

Reboot.

Now you can try installing the drivers again.

If you still run into trouble, you can now attempt to manually assign resources to the sound card. This is found in the Resources tab for the sound card in device manager.

Hi SA1988,
I went to the Resources tab and changed the DMA from 07, which was being used by the printer port, to 05 and the audio started working. Thank you.

Hi akimnet,
I started your method, but got stuck on uninstalling drivers. After changing the bios settings, my audio didn't work. I found the drivers used by SB16, and deleted them, but Windows wouldn't allow me to delete three. I returned the successfully deleted files back, rebooted, and changed my bios settings back to normal. My audio was working, but my system was behaving choppy (the startup sound was choppy). Applications with sound behaved the same. Rebooting my host system mostly fixed this, but it's still a little choppy. Do you think uninstalling and reinstalling drivers would fix this performance issue? If so, how would I got about fully uninstalling the drivers? If not, are there ways to diagnose the choppy performance? Thank you for your help so far. I've linked my intial bios settings, and the files which didn't delete.
