If I have put this in the wrong place, then I apologise. I could not find the right forum.

I have been playing with 86box recently and I am thoroughly impressed. It seems to do a great job of emulating real hardware and this is just what I want.

Background:
I have a section of my computer lab that is devoted to primarily 90's vintage computers. It all uses a KVM to attach 5 (and I propose ultimately 6) different computers to a single set of keyboard, mouse and 17" CRT display.
I am proposing to build a modern(ish) Windows 10 computer from cheap components that I mostly already have. This is intended to run a Pentium G3258 dual core Haswell refresh CPU overclocked, 8 - 16GB DDR3 memory at 1600MHz and a Geforce GTX 750 Ti or optionally a GTX 960.
Bear in mind that I don't think I will need to emulate much more in power than a fast 486 or low end Pentium. The next physical machine in the stack is a K6-III+ at 600MHz with an Obsidian SB50-4220 (Voodoo 1) and then there is a Voodoo 3 system with an Athlon XP, so powerful 3DFX computers are pretty much covered.
The reason that I wish to do this is to have these emulated systems running in the stack on a CRT display for an more authentic feeling experience.

So the question
For those of you with experience with 86box, is the proposed specification realistic?
I am aware that 86box is principally single threaded, so although I have appropriate i5 chips, I figured an overclocked Pentium would potentially be a better choice. However, it only just crossed my mind that the lack of AVX instructions may be an issue. So then how much of an impact might this have?
My hypothesis is that a high enough clockspeed should allow it to emulate a 486 at 100-133MHz or a Pentium at 66MHz without real issue. It may even allow for a little better than that. Given that I don't need emulate even high end Pentiums, this could realistically round out the stack which starts with a K6-III+ (200-600MHz with or without caches) and ends with a Core 2 Duo E8600 @ 3.6GHz and a GTX 750.
