I just came across a peculiar card: it is an ATI 3Charger Rage IIc, part number 109-49300-01. 4MB SDRAM, usual layout. It is an AGP card, but the chip is clearly labelled "Rage IIc PCI" (see attached photo).

I do not know if this is very notable, but this community is probably the only one on earth that could care about it / enjoy the picture. So I just registered to make this post. Enjoy!

Yes, some early AGP cards did come with chips designed for PCI and the AGP bus would match the PCI spec (backwards compatible).
Therefore that AGP card was only as good as PCI which was only really marginally slower anyhow.
