Hmm, had pretty much the same issues (any type of GPU load would freeze the system) with my own tnt2 m64 32MB on an 440LX mainboard and an apollo pro 133, yet when I swapped to a newer s478 platform with XP and a newer s462 board with VIA chipset it worked flawlessly. Maybe mine isn't broken but only needs more power? But then, would the apollo pro 133 also have the same issues with power delivery on AGP?

I couldn't save them, but that doesn't mean I can't save myself!
Ready yourself!

Its not about the kind of chipset, its the vintage with 440LX being the oldest one used on ATX AGP boards and some manufacturers didnt know what they were doing/were ignoring Intel recommendations at first. All the trouble boards are either AT or straight AT designs plopped on ATX template with no power delivery modifications.

A TNT2 M64 draws just about ~11W. In my experience they run fine even on SS7 boards where +3.3V is precariously provided by a linear voltage regulator rated at 7.5A max.

My bet would be that the graphics card needs a recap. Any OEM capacitor on a TNT2 M64 is 25+ years old @ 2026. And usually they put, at best, average quality lytic caps on these budget cards.

In fact I had to recap a TNT2 M64 just a few days ago. Even though the card still worked (apparently) fine, its main filtering cap (Teapo 6.3V 470uF) had started to bulge.

Let the air flow!
