Hello. I noticed an odd problem: My system cant read EDID even though I swapped 3 cables and 2 monitors and a TV, everything LCD/LED though still through VGA (I want just 1 CRT monitor, damn you collectors and scalpers).
My memory is very fuzzy, but I think it did work before: one day I disconnected a pair of pins so EDID wouldnt work and thus unlock different screen resolutions, however even after swapping for "complete" cables it still couldnt be read. I dont remember if I always been locked to 60hz, but I definitely got EDID before; For all I know, hardware internals are fully capable of 70/75hz, but instead falls back into safe 60hz settings with fewer resolutions when EDID is not present. EDID is not present here, so iI imagine it has to be the fallback.
Any chances its the VGA connector dying instead? Its 13 years old. I dont know internal electronics. But if my memory serves right, EDID stopped working during or since the time I cut off those pins so... I dont know how to know whether is faulty connector or firmware's bug.
Btw, I give what I said about prehistorik 2 and other choppy situations the favor of the doubt; since I get no EDID and Im thus probably locked at 60hz, things will of course look choppy forever no matter what.
