It will be funny watching prices crash after the bubble pops and orders are canceled.
You only need to look at GPU pricing after the Crypto bubble popped to realise pricing will never return to what it was before, you'll see a dip but nothing truly significant or long lasting. The AI bubble popping will be no different, pricing will stay high as they will still have shortages of stock that would be what consumers are looking for and also the silly war is causing other shortages of required rare earth materials for HDDs and other forms of storage.
Eg right now they are all making HBM memory which is pretty much useless to DIY PC builders.
Then when things look to be attempting to return to normal they will find another reason to create more shortages, they really don't want people owning compute they would rather you rent it from them instead.
This is the part that scares me the most.
They want to move everything to the "cloud", including your computing power, becasue this is really the only possible way to make money in a world ruled by data centers and AI everything.
I heard somewhere that the amount of money invested in AI is basically unrecoverable short of near total control of the market and everything in it, including your compute and data. This AI bubble is more overinflated than anything we've ever seen in the past. The crazy sums of money and resources being invested in a very high risk, high stakes game, all based on promises made of long-term future gains and record shattering rewards based on control of all our data, compute, and services. This is why the biggest players in AI are forging ahead, disregarding the dangers and pitfalls presented with this technology. They really don't have a choice. At this point, they don't just want your money, the need it, and cotnrol over every aspect of your life on top of it. It's the only way to win in this very dangerous game they're playing.
Their ideal future is similar to yesteryear, where your home computer, every device you have, is basically just a terminal. You have to connect to their service to use it, and pay a fee of course, either in the form of a subscription, or more likely, a token based system. They need AI embedded in as many aspects of your life as possible, they need it to replace as many jobs and services as possible, they need near total control, and that's exactly what their promising investors, more and more control means more and more profit.
This can really only end a few different ways.
1. They get what they want in some form.
2. They don't get it, and the bubble pops. Though, this could happen several different ways.
3. They recklessly forge ahead right into super-intelligence and none of it may matter anyway. Some "experts" estimate they may get it as early as the end of 2026. I guess we'll see.
Either way, it's scary. Makes me glad I had the life I did. It's my children and grandchildren who I worry most about.
