Ahhhhh, it is a better 32-bit fork of FTP4DOS... Stupid me! Apologize, @falcosoft!

The creator of the alternate version, intended to solve his problem and nothing else, and shared it with the community in the hopes that it might solve similar problems for others. It wasn't intended as competition, nor a replacement; he has already stated very clearly that he has no interest in maintaining it on an ongoing basis, nor dealing with the never-ending "suggestions". Unless you're committing to ongoing development, support and maintenance, there is no justification for giving it an entire thread. Come on, accept the challenge; "don't be lazy"!
It's always easy to feel entitled to things when you're making demands on the time of others; it's quite a different matter to actually sit down to create and support something long-term yourself. Personally, I'm thrilled that he decided to share it, and although I don't have time at the moment, I will definitely make a point of looking over his code. I'm sure there's something to be learned in there, though much like the author, I am not offering to maintain or support the application.
Sometimes, it pays to think before you start typing, especially when you're offering nothing but criticism, then insisting upon it.

I apologized for my stupidity, even before you started thinking to pour your heart out in this unnecessary comment. Do I owe you anything in particular?

OK, there is no problem 😀
Projanglez wrote on 2026-08-21, 22:54:Hey guys,
just a quick note that FTP4DOS v1.3.0 is out...
I decided that if during my FTPDOS32 usage I find a problem or bug that FTPDOS32 inherited from FTP4DOS then I will report it here.
This way both versions can benefit from my test sessions. Once more: FTPDOS32 is feature frozen currently and I do not expect user suggestions etc.
Problem: If DOSLFN is not loaded then FTP4DOS cannot copy files with multiple dots in the file name. That is file names like 'audio.min.js' or 'archive.tar.gz' cause an error when you try to copy them from FTP side to local DOS side.
It is fixed now in FTPDOS32. OP can decide if he wants to fix it in FTP4DOS or not.
PS:
@Projanglez: if you think you have free time and energy to maintain both versions and this way they can unite under the umbrella of 'FTP4DOS', it is yours.
(I do not mind a rename back to FTP4DOS. E.g. FTP4DOS 32-bit edition, FTP4DOS DJGPP version etc.).

Besides this, a few comments on this release versus FTP4DOS:
-Download speed is about 3-10 times faster than in FTP4DOS. It depends a lot on the site and the number of files inside a folder. In some cases I get 1 MB/s in others 150 Kb/s. Always downloading to RAM drive. FTPDOS32 could reduce download speed in half or more in folders with more than 4000 files with long names.
-Canceling a transfer it only takes about 2-3 seconds, but it takes about 10 seconds to get back to previous folder if current has 4000 files or so.
-When pressing Alt or Ctrl, the function keys indicator at the bottom of the screen does not change so, you don't know what action you are going to do.
-Changing active drive does not show valid drives but a list of all possible letters (from A to Z). You have to know what drives are active.
-Downloading a single file with long file name does not give you the option to choose a short file name. It automatically renames it without any prompt.

OK, some of the above are fixed:
- Extended Alt/Ctrl-aware function-key bar.
- Fixed drive selector. The fixed A–Z list is gone,
the dialog probes DOS and displays only drives that are currently available.
- Single-file long to short name prompt when DOS LFN support is unavailable.
- Somewhat faster remote server file list reload when FTP->LOCAL transfer is cancelled.
But this is really it. You have to accept the current features set and performance. I think it is still very usable in its current form.
Now FTP32DOS has the same version number as the current FTP4DOS version. It will not overtake it, I can promise.

-Download speed in 1.3 is slower than in 1.2: 230 KB/s vs 330 KB/s. This is downloading from the same FTP site, the same file, downloading to RAM drive and restarting the PC to avoid any kind of cache. With 1.2 download speed rarely drops to single digit KB/s, with 1.3 this happens regularly. But I can use 1.2 to download.
-In both 1.2 and 1.3, if I download files about 40 MB or more from a folder with 4000 files and long file names, FTPDOS32 hangs when download arrives at 100%. The download dialog stays on screen and none of the keys work. But I can use Ctrl+C to exit and the downloaded file it's OK. There are no issues to download files from folders with a few dozens of files.

The network and file transfer related code parts are not changed at all. So the difference can be attributed to actual network conditions.
Th slowest part is the panel file list generation that is more slow when DOSLFN is loaded. In this case much more protected mode -> real mode (and vice versa) switches occur.
Most likely FTPDOS32 did not hang but you should have waited a little more. Here is a new version (v1.3a) with no new features but some file list related performance optimizations and some usability fixes.
But please, let's stop here 😀

Sorry, I will not comment more about FTPDOS32.
Projanglez wrote on 2026-08-21, 22:54:Hey guys
I found another bug.
When copying multiple files from a local computer to an FTP folder, a window pops up asking if you want to copy. And if the FTP folder has a non-Latin name, the Unicode isn't converted.
