Soundblaster Pro cards (both versions) are 16-bit ISA cards, not 8-bit. SB 2.0 is (as 1.5 and original) 8-bit. However, it is essentially a 8-bit card as far as it comes to data paths, 16-bit interface provides IRQ10 and DMA 0 only.
They are essensially 8 bit, the point is that I want the 8 bit sound. 8-bit digital audio with stereo support up to 22,050 Hz or mono up to 44,100 Hz. 😀
The difference between Pro 1.0 and 2.0 is how the stereo FM is delivered, the 1.0 uses two mono OPL2 chips, the 2.0 uses one stereo OPL3.
There are only a handful of games that support dual OPL2 only (four [url=https://www.dosdays.co.uk/topics/Manufacturer … tive/ct1330.php]according to DOS Days[/])
If you don't want to play those four specifically, everything else that offers 8b Sound Blaster stereo will work with an SBPro2.0 or compatible, and the vast majority of ISA sound cards are SBPro2.0 compatible. Choose one that has a real Yamaha OPL3 or 1:1 clone and it will sound exactly like the Pro 2.0.
Cheap/common options include anything with Aztech 3rd or 4th gen (AZT2316 or AZT2320-based) chips or anything with the earlier OPTi 929/930. You can find these going for EUR 10-15 or so, i.e. about 1/10 of a 'real' SBPro2.0. An additional benefit is that they offer bug-free MPU-401 MIDI, unlike the SBPro (which lacks hardware UART) or SB16 (which all have various MIDI bugs).
