hi guys..
picked up this card the other week not knowing much about it other than it is a AGP tnt2 "pro" (is it?)
the card does display on post but i havent sorted drivers for it yet..
looking at it, it looks like so many of the common m64 versions... i dont own any non-m64 versions nor have i ever seen any in real life so im wondering if this really is, as according to the sticker on it an actual "pro" version.. of course it would be extremely easy for a not-so-reputable vendor to simply put a dodgy label on it..
i tried to remove the fan and see what what written on the chip but it is stuck on really tightly.. ive taken off the heatsink of an m64 one that i own and it came off easily.. this makes me a little suspicious..
on post the screen says "tnt2 pro" but im sure that would be easily modded in the bios..
its just the general layout and cheapness of it that makes me think it is really just a cheapo m64..

what do you guys think.. how do i definitively determine what it is?

oh other part is.. the card didnt want to post in the p3 for quite a while.. wasnt until i put the AC power cord into another plug (at the same time i also hooked up the AV out) that it finally showed an image.. can AC voltage issues (if thats what it was) cause this .. or not having / having the AV connected affect things?

cheers

The chip is binned as TNT2 Pro, but with 64-bit memory. So essentially M64. Some cards even used TNT2 Ultra.

it could be a couple of things, not sure what your case is so I will cover them all:

The Thermal Paste could just be old and hard, and when its cold, it won't budge. Let it run for a while and get good and hot, then try. Or better yet, a heat gun or blow dryer if you have one of them. Go slowly and check often.

Phase change thermal compounds need heat too lossen up (Often pink or white waxy looking material) and again, heat is the answer.

Or it has Thermal Epoxy. This means its pretty much stuck on, and trying to take it off often damages the chip.
Cheap OEM cards sometimes did that, and early gen cards.
Its not common on heat sinks that have the "Spring Pin" type hold downs. Those usually come off with heat, time and patience.

Twisting often works better then prying, or do both...just take your time.
