He replied to some comments under his last video. His last reply is from 12 days ago.

He's also been selling his stuff in bulk via Lots on OCAU so i think he's winding down and focusing other priorities in life.

Happens to us all eventually, I'm in a similar boat where work has pretty much taken over my free time and life in general gets far more attention than I want to give it.

I gave away a large chunk of my older retro parts to a lad who was just getting into the hobby, never seen someone so excited to get given parts before. I could have sold it but like Phil, quickly realised its far too much work and buyers are even pickier than before, better to find a fellow hobbyist that wants to take it at least I know itll be taken care of and treated right.

I'm keeping all my Core2 and newer stuff as that's the era I find easiest to work with but anything else will eventually go to a new home.

For now Ill likely just stick to emulation too for the 486 era stuff, Dos Box has gotten to the point it can handle pretty much anything from that era I'm interested in with a bit of tweaking and there are other Emu options for the stuff it cant. I've been dabbling in WinUAE a bit too playing some fantastic Amiga games in the little spare time I get and the emulation is damn near perfect, same for the C64 Emulation.

Lot of fun to still be had in the retro scene that wont degrade or fail on me while I get lifes duties out of the way.

I was curious about the lack of new videos on his channel as well.

It looks like his priorities are shifting away from this hobby, and that's perfectly understandable. Phil gave us a ton of great content for over a decade, and I'm very thankful for that. I wish him good fortune with whatever he chooses to do in the future.

A comment on Retrobus alluded to this and it hit me pretty hard today. I'll miss hearing him say Wolfenstein.

Yeah emulation and repro stuff has gotten crazy good in the last while , so at least there are alternatives now , wasn't always the case.

That said Phill has done a lot for this hobby and i wish him all the best with future endeavors.

Being a little selfish here but it was fun watching him dig into the parts and get all excited about parts and the builds he wanted to do, made sure to throw a few nice bits in there like a AWE64 Gold with memory, an Tseng ET400 AX card and a nice Intel DX4-75. Also let him know he can contact me anytime he needs to to pick my brain about the parts and software, it really is nice to pass the knowledge on so it doesn't get lost and forgotten to time. (My Brain not withstanding 🤣, after 50 its all downhill in my family for memory retention)

Phil is pretty into emulation so we will see more vids from him on that, itll be interesting for sure.

I think he said in one of his videos that he's married now so that explains it. Funny that just recently he started another channel dedicated to soldering and now he doesn't have time to do any new videos. Good for him!

We also need to know that making videos, editing them, reviewing them and so on take a lot of time and he has too many subs to release unpolished content. Maybe he will have more time to actually using hardware and playing games instead of making 2 videos per week and being burned out of it. I think he will be back.

He had some decent stuff on his youtube channel. But for every good video there were 5 not worth watching.
But having said that the good ones he did were so good the 5 bad ones were worth putting up with anyway. He really was that good, if you see what I mean.

On the one hand, it's a shame because I always enjoyed his content. On the other hand, it did seem that he had nearly exhausted the topic of '90s to mid 2000's x86 Retro PC Gaming And Compuiting' and wasstruggling to find new things to cover. An amazing 12 years of work and I hope he enjoys whatever he's moving onto. I for sure own one of those Asrock 775 with AGP mobos because of his work.

I think Phil could have tried revisiting older topics again as newer methods and processes emerge.

I bought my Asrock 775i65G R3.0 from him the other day, he was selling three of them and I managed to snag one of them before they got bought out.
