This then carried Intel a long damn way . .all the way through Skylake.

Pentium M was just the shot across the bow, it was Core 2 Duo that sunk my battleship. E6600 was my first intel processor.

Core 2 was amazingly good, my favourite bit of kit to tinker with.

Pentium M CPU's are great overclockers. A nice thing about the rarity of desktop boards for these is that the CPUs are still (or at least were, I haven't checked lately) pretty cheap. I was able to buy the 780 I have for a little over $20.00 IIRC.

Weirdly the 400 FSB high multiplier parts are expensive now.

I was going through my collection of boards that need a recap and found a P4C-800E rev 2.0 non Deluxe. Was excited for about 5 minutes until I realized I couldn't get the CT-479.

Oh, maybe I should look into getting some more fun than the 735A for my CT-479/P4C800 then ... (not even sure it the 735A will run in that)

Planned on using an adapter from mini PCI to full-size PCI for a sound card so I could fit it all in a Fractal Ridge. It all fell through after dropping hundreds $$$ on the Amfeltec solution that wasn't compatible with this board.

I really wanted either the Aopen 855 or the Kontron 886/ITX board, But that's life.

Love the Pentium M, and industrial boards, and Kontron 😀 I've got a very cool little "EBX" form factor PIII board , and a Kontron KTQ45 Flex-ATX with a Core 2 Quad CPU.

My most recent retro hardware acquisition is a Cherry G84-4100 PS/2 mini keyboard, which made me go squeee when I first saw it IRL; so tiny and cute, yet perfectly formed! I also picked up two Microsoft mice, one optical, one ball, which were incredibly filthy and disgusting, but also free. They cleaned up beautifully after disassembly and a bath:

I got a CRT monitor from the 80's for my old consoles. It works, but the green color is a bit too bright and there are loose connections on basically every switch and jack. So I still have some work to do fixing it.

Yeah, surprised me as well. Wish I'd taken a photo of what they looked like before, because they were really quite gross and sticky. I disassembled them and let everything apart from the PCBs soak in warm water and washing up liquid, then cleaned each piece with a soft sponge and rinsed. The ball and the scroll wheels then got a quick bath in 99% IPA, as did the PCBs, and after drying I applied the absolutely tiniest amount of silicone oil on a cloth and gave everything (apart from the PCBs, obviously) a quick wipe with it. This should help protect the rubber parts from drying out and cracking, and gives the hard plastic a perfect shine. It also helped soften up the cables, which had become a bit stiff. The white plastic is a tiny bit yellowed, but that only adds to the retro vibes if you ask me 😀

Edit: I do need to source a couple of "skids" for the IntelliEye mouse, since the original ones were missing, so if anyone has any ideas for that...

That's a nice JVC monitor, though it could do with a clean... The clear acrylic front can be polished with Novus to get rid of the scratches, or I guess you could just remove it altogether?

Already got a CedarMill 661 P4 3.6Ghz CPU for it or a QX6800 I can drop in there too if I want more grunt. Not sure if Ill throw a 6800 Ultra in it or the 7900GS, I guess it depends on how the P4 does with each one, I suspect itll handle the 6800 Ultra better.

I do have a Ti4600 and a FX5700 Ultra I could drop back to for better compatibility but I doubt Ill need it, not going to be playing older titles on it !

Wow... I've never seen one of these. It really has the Vibe. I hope you manage to buff it to shine 😀 I would really enjoy hooking up an old console... like Megadrive 2 on this one.

Yeah... I remember my Radeon X1600Pro allowed me to use HDR and AA at the same time. I did have to use lower res. but it was still a treat. Nowadays my collection is actually mostly centered around 9000 series, X800 and X1800/X1900, and this 1900XT I bought just because of Ruby 😀
