I'm branching this off from my existing thread about DMA hard-freezing with a JP103-5 SATA-to-IDE adapter, since this is really a separate hardware question.

I have a Gigabyte GA-586HX rev. 1.55 (430HX/PIIX3) with all four PCI slots currently occupied:

S3 Trio64
Voodoo 1
3Com NIC
USB card

I can always delete the USB card, but I'm loathe to lose it. I ordered a VIA VT6421A PCI SATA card. But I'm considering a PCI riser/splitter that allows two PCI cards to share one physical slot.

My question is simply: is something like this likely to work with the GA-586HX/430HX PCI bus?

I'm mainly wondering about the electrical/bus side of putting two PCI devices behind one PCI slot through a riser/splitter like this.

Has anyone used a PCI splitter/riser of this type on a 430HX-era board, particularly a GA-586HX or similar Intel 430-series chipset?
