The videos are pretty much what I had imagined, no revelations there unfortunately

No problem with the card that I know of, I have a sound blaster live value in my K6-2+ system and it didn't exhibit any of these issues. I can force it to have the issue by setting windows and the sound card to 4 channel and only have 2 speakers plugged in.

Only other thing I can think of is that it's driver related

Ahh, I see. Hmm. Could be the drivers. I recall the issue happening on my main retro PC as well, though I don’t know if I was using the same driver. I imagine I was, particularly for Windows 98, but I can’t remember if I had to get a different driver for XP. Actually I may have used the same one straight from the CD on both. I’ll have to see if I can find the latest one online.

The problem I have is that I'm not sure what the driver version is that I have. I can't find anywhere on the CD or in the readme's to suggest what it is. There are CDs on Internet Archive, but again - no idea what version they are.

Yeah, sadly, upgrading the audio card's drivers made no difference.

I'm out of ideas unfortunately, I guess the last option is to try a different sound card
