No, you don't have to use Wine in Linux, just build a native Linux version using "make linux" command, run ./scva-daemon with options then point the player of your choice to the new born "SCVA" MIDI port.

ah, this is the confusion. i did run 'make linux' which completed successfully and this is what i'm getting:

~/Downloads/scva-headless/build$ ./scva-daemon --core ./SCCore.dll

scva-daemon: no binding for __vcrt_InitializeCriticalSectionEx (VCRUNTIME140.dll)
looked for './SCCore.dll'; pass --core or set $SCVA_DLL_DIR

so if it's not looking for wine what do you think the issue is? i'm using an up-to-date debian trixie.

You're trying to run 32-bit SCCore.dll from a 64-bit scva-daemon process and getting this weird type of messages.
Find the proper 64-bit SCCore.dll and you're done 😀 .

it is the 64bit SCCore.dll. i run it in a 64bit wine prefix with 64bit fsmp. i don't think the 32bit SCCore.dll would run natively without jbridge.

edit: SCCore.dll v1.1.2 file size: 27,358,208 bytes, md5: 80f1e673d249d1cda67a2936326f866b, sha1: ba0d868fd55b3114ce2cfb7dec0a5f6314113791

Found your version of SCCore.dll, tried to run it, got the same "no binding" error. The scva-daemon is completely AI thing with no warranty or support as previously stated by its author.
So this one is the incompatible version, switch to the latest one (1.1.6), known and used by many.

PS. 32-bit SCCore.dlls produce the very same error being run on the 64-bit Linux.

Yes, someone seems to have archived the 1.16 dll somewhere.

i got this SCCore.dll v1.1.6 working:
filesize - 27,347,456 bytes
md5 - dbd9a30c168efef577d40a28d9adf37d
sha1 - cf9dce5a0cabee06792e884673b8beef806f1aed

i thought maybe if i compile the 32bit scva-daemon (make daemon32) on an athlon system i could circumvent the sse2 requirement, but alas, the instructions are embedded in SCCore.dll. (it worked in kvm when selecting pentium3 as the cpu, but i guess it only identifies itself as such and doesn't respect the physical hardware limitations.)

edit: i stand corrected. i stupidly tried using the 64bit SCCore.dll with scva-daemon32 (odd that scva-daemon32 works with 64bit SCCore.dll on 32bit vm with 64bit cpu). i tried again with the correct 32bit SCCore.dll and it works on an athlon xp debian (bookworm) system! it reports sse2/sse3 shims in the terminal output so it's translating those instructions to i686. next it's time to see if i can get this working in win9x with the binaries or as a clap plugin.

scva-headless is very cool! i now have it working under win98se on via kt133a and intel 440bx systems. never thought this would ever be possible (neither for os or cpu) so now i can reduce my retro setup footprint as i no longer need a dedicated box for scva. next up is getting nuked sc-55 (already compiled for win98) optimized to run on these older cpus.

i was also able to successfully compile the scva-headless clap-win32 plugin, but i'm a bit clueless on how to get it working as i've only ever dealt with vst2 plugins. i tried using savihost (clap + multi) under win98se and it required installing the VC_R_9X.EXE backport of visual c++ 2008; however, it just complains that it's unable to load the plugin. i'm also having problems with the s-mu2000 clap plugin so maybe there's something i just don't grasp about clap.
