Ok, now I really created a proper monster! 😁

Am5x86-P75-S @ 200MHz + ATi Radeon 7000 (PCI) 64MB DDR
Fully stable in DOS (so far).

Fully tuned (BIOS), added 32MB RAM and made a new set of benchmarks.
Memory is running in 1 WS mode.
Found out that integrated IDE works, only IDE2. If I connect anything to IDE1 the board will not POST.

I love this thread! I am a K6-2/3 guy, but now you have me thinking about the earlier chips.
I had read older chips are supported by Super Socket 7 (I have GA5 AX rev 4.1 and p5A B Rev 1.04) so maybe I will start looking on Ebay, anything I should look for beyond your specific date code/model number?

I've read that out of the 3 available demo runs there are a few FPS differences.
Also, "-nosound" could give a few points. Double checked it is already using -nosound switch.

I just select: "c) Quake timedemo" from the DOS Benchmark Pack visible in one of the images and what score I get is what it is.
For curiosity I will check this VESA 320x200 option.

I got (VERY) lucky with this CPU, running stable @200 with no thermal issues and/or thermal degradation.
As mentioned by red-ray this is 486 territory (Socket3), Socket 7 is a different league.
In my opinion gather as much Am5x86-133 CPUs you can on the cheap. I managed 5 in around 3-4 months here in Hungary.
Then get a board that supports system bus of: 50MHz. I choose Soyo SY-4SAW. It's not rare, not expensive. If I could go back, I might also choose a mainboard that supports EDO RAM too.
This one also does according to the SiS chipset documentation, but in reality it does not. (Maybe also BIOS issue?)
I get POST with one EDO RAM, but fails to boot at slowest RAM speeds.

Then try the CPUs on default voltage but set to 200MHz(4x50).
If one gives any sign of life (BIOS beeps) raise the voltage, not too much. Try 3.6V or maybe 4.0V. Anything above could still work, but the CPU would age quite fast and based on what I read would be hot as hell.
If you are very-very lucky there could be some CPUs booting at 200MHz on default 3.45V.

On the voltage subject.
I want a double check and confirmation.
I think this 5x86@200 is running at 3.6V which would be awesome! (default is 3.45V)

On this Soyo board jumpers JP39 and JP40 are responsible for Voltage regulation.

Checked VESA, slower:

With VESA 320x200 I got: 18.3 FPS. (In Quake it's Video Mode:11 = VESA 320x200)
With VGA 320x200 I got: 20.2 FPS. (In Quake it's Video Mode:0 = VGA 320x200)

Quick check done with 3DRage IIC VGA: VESA 320x200 I got exactly: 18.3 FPS same as with Radeon 7000.

Maybe try a Matrox MilleniumII - I got 21.3- in Quake and 30.7 frames in PC Player Benchmark(but with an UMC 888x based board).

Physical Cache configuration is an extremely hairy subject. In some cases you have to keep the order of the chips in mind... permutations aplenty. Also having a huge array of ICs with matching production dates is important... sometimes 15ns chips can outperform 12ns ones. I had a 586 SI5PI-AIO where only 1 set of 20ns sram chips enabled the fastest settings - to my surprise my heavily tested sets of 15- and 12ns chips would not allow proper function.

Quake is very memory and cache sensitive.
I am running FPM, with a fast EDO I could probably get better score.
The problem is that this board does not eat EDOs. 😁
One EDO module (out of a few) POSTs, but fails to boot to OS.

My 512K cache chips are quite mixed regarding matching production dates.
The 256K are all the same, but produces lower score (because it's 256K).

Strange... something is not right with FDOOM. Tried two VGA cards: Radeon 7000 and 3DRage IIC. Same symptom.

FDOOM.EXE - after the loading screen(looks good) I hear a short beep and screen washes away(like seen below) and system freeze.
FDOOMVBR.EXE - same.

VIDSPEED runs fine. (Radeon 7000)
