When the very first BT devices (ericsson T39, and the related accessories) were released Win95 was already 6 years old.

At the time BT and Smartphones, especially for Americans were literally Science Fiction, You can see a prototype of the very first smartphone and BT earpiece, in the Tomb Raider movie from 2001

After 2001 Americans tried to block the BT devices in any way, it was only after the iphone release that BT was taken more seriously in the US, but when that happened, Win95 was already more than a decade old.

In short consider a miracle to have something working like the Widcomm stack.

Perhaps, BT stacks, weren't a lot, aside the primitive one from IBM, You had Widcomm, Blutonium (Bluesoleil), and Toshiba, so not a lot to test

What may work is to edit the .inf to force a new unsupported device to use old BT 1.0/2.0 drivers. That may work for CSR devices, i did that many times on modern Windows (I use the Toshiba stack, not the crappy MS thing, even in Win 11), not sure about Win9x.

Jabra stacks always seemed to play nice on my noughties 98 beater laptop, but I think they were only 2.0

Edit: Oh yah, compaq supported 98 for corporates fore a few years into the noughts and had reasons to have good bluetooth connectivity with their PDAs etc. Maybe poking around in their stuff might find something.

Is there a reason why older Logitech mice with the Unifying Receivers are unacceptable? The software for pairing doesn't work on Win98 but you just do it on another computer and then move the dongle over.

I used the marvel that is the M705 (Marathon) and I never had to pair it, It just worked out of the box, until it was retired few years ago.

But, in case, I can't see the problem just, like you said, pair it using another OS. Way simpler to use than BT devices.

P.S. The fun fact of the M705 was that it was so sober with the batteries that I replaced once its microswitches (worn by years of usage), but I never replaced the batteries, it still has the AA Duracells included in the box.

I retired it because it become insensitive, likely the laser lost power after almost 15 years of service.

Not sure if the current model (apparently identical but with different internals) is as good as the old one. The new model lacks the (hidden) thumb button)
