Hi

I have found a "3M High Density Haute densite 2.0 MB" disk
I have formated it and it says its used space is 144 KB. Free space is 1.24 MB and Capacity is 1.38 MB

Anyone know what is going on hear please?

"2MB" is the supposed "unformatted" max size that 3M claimed a 1.44MB floppy disk would hold. The extra space is implied that the formatting uses this to make the disk usable with a filesystem. I'm pretty sure this is mostly false.

You can attempt an overformat/superformat to get more space out of a 1.44MB floppy disk(up to 1.9MB!) which 3M might be implying?

Yes, marketing. It's similar to how tape manufacturers advertise the compressed capacity of their tapes instead of the actual capacity.

"1.0 MB" 3.5" floppy disks format to 720 KiB and "2.0 MB" disks format to 1440 KiB under DOS/Windows.

In 2M Format you can use 80 × 2 × 23 × 512 = 1,884,160 bytes
