hello, i cannot get my games to play the cd music. i installed the games using dosbox from the original retail cd in a physical cd drive. i know that the drive is recognized to be present to the games because for instance when starting blood i can see in the startup messages that the cd drive is initialized and blood will play its smacker cutscene video and the wav sound files for the cutscene directly from the cd drive. (can see and hear them perfectly fine)
if i unmount the cd drive then blood will not play any cutscene video, and you will have midi music during gameplay instead of silence. also carmageddon will complain that it wants you to insert the cd and refuse to function until you mount the cd drive again. i have checked in windows mixer and nothing is muted, all the volume slider are up, and no volume sliders are hidden.
i have tried mounting the drive in many various different ways...
mount d e:\ -t cdrom
mount d e:\ -t cdrom -ioctl
mount d e:\ -t cdrom -ioctl -usecd 0
mount d e:\ -t cdrom -ioctl -label BLOOD121 -usecd 0
i have a strange thought on where the problem may lie, this might not be a problem though:
i have a realtek onboard soundchip but i disabled it in the bios. instead of that i am using a PCI soundblaster audigy gamer card, which is about 8yrs old and with these you would use a little grey cable to connect your cd-drive to the soundcard or else you got no cd music. however, on the new sata optical drives there is no need to do this and i get cd music in windows apps just fine, and even if i wanted to connect them together its impossible since there is no aux input on the cd drives anymore.
😖
ok so with all that said, any ideas what the problem is?
