Computer – HP Pavilion zv6000

1.Motherboard - ATI Technologies Inc RS480 Host Bridge
2.CPU - Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] - AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.0 GHz processor
3.Graphics Card - VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon XPRESS 200M 5955 (PCIE)
4.Sound board – don't know
5.OS – Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10
6.Simcity 2000
7.Latest Dosbox .72

When I start the program, instead of game video, there is a jumble of dosbox menu jargon such as “type ctrl f10 to release mouse” (not verbatim but you get the idea). I know this has something to do with the video card. I changed the configuration file to replace the the video support entry with the correct video card. This which upgraded my problem from the game refusing to load on account of an unsupported video card, to the current problem of jumbled video.

It looks like my current video card, the ATI Radeon Xpress 200m doesn't support the game. The game suggested an ATI graphics card that seemed to be a little more cooperative when I tried it. But both the manually inputed card (ATI Radeon) and the game supported similar card (ATI Vga Wonder)

My barely computer literate conclusion: the solution is getting the ideal card (ATI Vga wonder) format to translate to the new card (ATI Radeon) in some way.

If anyone has ideas I would greatly appreciate them
thank you

I believe there's a "generic" option in the SimCity 2000 setup. You need to chose either that or an "S3" option.

DOSBox emulates an S3 graphics card. It doesn't see your Radeon XPRESS.

Think there's a VESA option or something similar.

Just remember that when using dosbox you have to configure the games
according to what dosbox emulates (that is s3 svga card, or vesa as options).
