Hi, All!

Obtained Voodoo Banshee 16M AGP and Velocity 100 AGP from the scrapyard and got a strange problem.
Both they on three different S7 mobo (two MVP3 and one Aladdin V) does not support anything above 640x480 in the Windows 98 SE.
WinNT 4.0 and Win2K works fine, but in the 98 no one driver (including unofficial) can't help me to set even 800x600x16.

What is it?

This is what I used in 2001, and it worked W/O problems in either VIA and ALI mobos

Thank you, but same situation: 640x480 with all possible color depths and single 800x600x16 (this resolution also available with some of another drivers I tried before, but it completely useless).
This is a simple Win98SE installation from the original ISO (J3QQ4-*), but it looks like the problem in the system itself. Will try to install from the another image.

This is a common complaint with voodoo cards and there is no single fix because everything in the system has to be installed correctly. Some of the reasons I've seen are

- No valid monitor definition (Auto EDID or installed INF)
- AGPSet or Chipset drivers missing or not working
- 3DFX drivers not installed correctely or not operating
- Bad OS install

I would recommend trying to reinstall the driver in a different way. For example, change the device back to Standard Adapter, restart, then install the drivers from your own location.

While on 640x480, try setting 16/24 bit, apply, reboot and then select a higher resolution.

No effect. This is a first what I tested.

The same, no any effect.

Inaccessible or faulty DDC is good idea, will try with another monitor and cable.
But as for the AGP stack drivers, that is highly doubtful. Via 4-in-1 and ALi AGP Driver was installed as first driver in the each system.
Two different chipsets on three different motherboards. Each board have own OS on separate CF card. Two different voodoo cards. And such identical behavior...
And in the same time dozen video cards from another vendors on these boards runs completely without any resolution problem!

There is needed to search for suspicious general components of all systems: cable + monitor (thank you for idea), OS, something I did the same way everywhere.
