Hello, I have an ATI D610 Dell laptop and I am setting up a multiboot on it, and one of those systems is Windows 9x... specifically Me with the DOS mode patch, cumulative update, and component updates. It's about as functional as 98SE, if not more. This same issue also happens in 98SE, and it happens where I need to change the IDE controller's I/O range in Device Manager to get the DVD drive to work. Unfortunately, when I finish doing that, the computer locks up. Has anyone managed to install 9x on a D610 ATI model before? Also I did find drivers for the video card but the highest I can go is 1280x1024 and not 1400x1050. Hopefully I can get some help here, and thanks in advance.

I should also mention this also happens with the D810. Might be a platform issue or something. 😒

... Why do you need to change the IO range?

IDE controllers explicitly live on 4 known sets of IO addresses.
1F0 + 3F6 [Primary IDE]
170 + 376 [Secondary IDE]
1E8 + 3EE [Tertiary IDE]
168 + 36E [Quaternary IDE]

they *NEVER* live on others.

Unless these are PCI based cards that can be reassigned, these are hard configured by jumpers on classic machines.

You DO NOT need to change the IO port address in order to add drives to a controller. That is NOT how that works. Each controller has a Master and a Slave that can live on the cable. This is controlled by jumpers on the devices themselves.
