I'm trying to shoehorn a Win95 machine into a modern SFF case and the old, long IDE CD-RW drive hits the back of the TFX PSU. The PSU is as short as allowed by the TFX Standard. See the pics, I only need about 3/16" to clear it.

I want to use a real IDE drive, not IDE/SATA Bridges if possible.

This drive is 7-3/8" long (18.73cm) it seems long to my eye. Anyone have a shorter CDRW IDE drive and want to share the model #? IDE DVD drives also ok!

I was looking around while I was doing stuff, hands full and no tape measure in sight, but seemed like the mid noughties H-L Data Storage DVD and DVDRW were pretty short in comparison to everything else, around 6.5 to 7"

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

I just measured a 2007 black LG IDE DVD-RW drive and it was 6 3/4 inches.

If you are not in a hurry, I'll be back home by the weekend and can have a look through my box of ODDs to give you some model numbers to look for. Most of my stuff is IDE from the late 2000's now. I also have a box of older IDE drives (early and mid -2000's), but my observation for those has been that most of them are pretty long, especially the early 2000's and late 90's stuff.

Yeah no rush. I'd appreciate knowing models because I need a few shorties. Thanks!

Alright, here we go...

6.75 inches / 17.2 cm drives:
* Sony CRX320E [type: CD-RW + DVD-ROM], beige, IDE
* HDLS / LG GCE-8527b [type: CD-RW only], beige, IDE
* LG GSA-H10n [type: CD-RW & DVD-RW], beige, IDE
* LITE-ON DH-20A4p [type: CD-RW & DVD-RW], black, IDE
* LITE-ON SHW-160ps [type: CD-RW & DVD-RW], black, IDE
* JVC / LITE-ON XJ-HD166s [type: CD-ROM & DVD-ROM], black, IDE

6 and 3/8 inches / 17.5 cm drives:
* Sony NEC Optiarc AD-7170A [type: CD-RW & DVD-RW], black, IDE

I also have a bunch at 7" exactly, IIRC, but let me know if those would work for you. Otherwise, I won't go digging for the box. Not that it's a big deal or anything, but nevertheless.
I also didn't include any SATA drives. But let me know if you need some of those too. FWIW, most newer SATA drives are pretty much all 7" or less.

This would work well, but have to have one with ide.

The bay adapter is easy as you can get a Dell slim CD + usb2 card reader that goes in a 5.25" bay.
