If anyone has some insight that could help, I'd appreciate it! Fortunately, several games do work, so it doesn't seem to be a bigger issue. I just recently hopped on the nostalgia train and bought a D300 off eBay. Quake 1, Duke 3D, Shadow Warrior, Companions of Xanth, Commander Keens, a handful of Apogee demos all work.

* Pharoah's Ascent is a little Windows puzzle game from 1997. Disc in, game installed, the FMV intro plays, but then the screen is black with just the mouse cursor. Wait and nothing happens, no key responses. Am able to bring up task manager.
* Quake 2 after install launches and I see Quake 2 in the top left title bar but the whole image is pink, like nothing's loaded. I'm going to try to get it into software mode first and then work from there.

I don't know much about this ATi Rage Pro Turbo that came with the system. I might eventually get a Voodoo, but they're more than I want to spend. I pretty much don't intend to play any 3D accelerated games past Half Life 1 (whenever I get it) on this system. Speces in signature.

Thank you!

that pink IS the software mode. I suspect the sound initialization froze after this. Try adding +set s_wavonly 1 or use the safe mode shortcut
