It's quite impressive how far this has come, so fast.

How is it achitected? Is it basically a generic "hal" interface, with a kind of card specific driver of sorts?

Yep 100%, it is a shared 3D core for all cards and then GPU specific override as required.

My Remote Agent allows AI to automate most of the testing process, so this speeds things up significantly.

I've decided my next card is the ATi Rage 128, maybe not the most interesting but I own a Rage Fury Maxx (Dual CPU Rage 128) so I want to get that going, and in future get it working in Windows 2000/XP.

I'm already building a ground up 2000/XP driver, but that has a very specific card I'm focusing on at the moment, taking lots of time that one. Not releasing it yet.

Amazing.
Are you finding any issues with variants, or is one of a family/architecture basically fine?

Eg rx460 =rx590 with/without issues

I haven't done new ATi/AMD cards yet but the Intel iGPUs change a lot, real pain actually! Still haven't worked on dynmaic shared ram, the GMA 950 is limited to only 8mb currently, so need to fix that, at least the newer intel GPUs do 32mb by default.

My goal is to get Far Cry/HL2 working and DX9, but that is a while off.

I just used those as an example of an architecture family. They're all Polaris.

Are you finding that once one Xxx works, others of the same family and generation are automatically working?

Like, you did a 4th gen Intel driver for some relatively decent chip. If someone pulls out a Gen4 celeron, it isn't an issue that it has fewer units or anything?

Or is it too early to tell?

For ram, I'd suggest having a cap at 256mb for the mean time. 512 had issues back in the day, so best to avoid that headache until you're ready to figure out what it is

Yes the gens are mostly the same if not exactlly the same the PCI ID matches. Intel did some interesting things with Gen 7 vs 7.5 and Gen 4/5.

I had Gen 3 and Gen 7.5 done so was hoping Gen 4 would be easy, but no, was very different.

Well at least that's a win. There simply aren't that many generations of gpu period.
25ish or so for Intel, 30ish for amd and nvidia, and then a bunch of didn't make its.
Maybe 100-120 in total to date.

Hello! ... I see that support for Intel Haswell is nearly perfect; in light of this, I’d like to know if it would work with an i3-4160 (HD 4400), which is also part of the Haswell line?

Hahah it is far from perfect but should work okay for older games, I am working on 0.21 release that improves performance and fixes various bugs.

HD 4400 does not work as I don't have the hardware, but it should be same Gen so it should be easy fix.

Hi! I have the configuration file generated by V9XSURV.EXE, and I’m making it available for you to analyze... Unfortunately, I don’t have a network card that’s compatible with Win9x/ME (it’s a Realtek RTL8111H), which is very frustrating—but that’s another story, haha...

Thanks I'll check it out.

I picked up a netgear USB netgear WG111v2 and WG111v3 wifi dongle, these work on Win 98 with WPA2, so have been very useful.

Your GPU should work now, it matches 4600, I haven't tested but you can try https://github.com/michaeldale/velocity9x/rel … ses/tag/v0.27.0

Doing work on the Rage 128 has been interesting, it has a little cpu in front of the 3d pipeline called the Command Completion Engine that handles many of the tasks into the GPU. Pretty different from all other cards I've looked at.

There is some microcode that must be loaded onto the GPU for it to function, linux includes an MIT licensed version so we can include it.

I wonder, do you think you could squeeze more performance out of the Rage 128 than you can get from the official ATI drivers?

MB: ASRock B550 Steel Legend
CPU: Ryzen 9 5950X
RAM: Corsair 64GB Kit (4x16GB) DDR4 Veng LPX C18 4000MHz
SSDs: 2x Crucial MX500 1TB SATA + 1x Samsung 980 (non-pro) 1TB NVMe SSD
OSs: Win 11 Pro (NVMe) + WinXP Pro SP3 (SATA)

I have't really be able to do that just yet, but it maybe possible, the driver allows me to see where the performance bottlenecks are, so it is easier to find out!
