Recently got back into the pc hobby after a long absence and having fun with my new retro collection.

Got a Tulip PC compact 2 for my birthday, a nec v20 powered xt. This was the first pc we had at our home 40 years ago and i learned to code on it as an 11 year old. It rekindled my interest in pc’s so i started collecting machines i used to have or longed for.

The collection is just 2 months old but already built it out with a Tulip pc compact 1, Tulip dx486dx66, another Tulip dc5/200 vision line (pentium 200mmx) (you can sense a theme here😁) and finally an IBM ps/2 model 80.

Always been interested in soundcards so i added the cards i used to have back in the day; a soundblaster 2.0 with cms chips to the compact 2, a Gravis ultrasound cd 3 & soundblaster 16 in the 486. The pentium is equipped with a Terratec ews64.
Never had a Roland mt-32 but i finally got one😁 and it is waiting on a mpu401 compatible isa card to drop in the mail for the pc compact 2.

Still on the wishlist are a ps/2 286 mca and a Tulip tr486e eisa tower (hints for classifieds are welcome)

Found lots of video, soundcard and network drivers on Vogons and great content in the general discussions, it’s been really helpful getting this gear up and running jogging my 40 years of msdos memories.

Cheers,

Leon

Welcome. Nice collection you have already.

Speaking of programming on an XT, I have been making a game port for XT class machines. The original game was on BBC Micro.

I am using Borland Turbo C++ 1.0 to compile the project in C. There is also a little ASM on the graphics routines. It is great fun, but a real challenge. The 4.77Mhz especially, is super-slow. So much optimisation and thought on architecture is required.

Tulip did make good looking and well engineered machines. Everybody in The Netherlands back in the day had a compact 2 via pc projects at work.

There’s one unicorn model on my wishlist that used to be on display at my local ibm & tulip dealership, a tr486e with eisa bus. Never seen one since but i did manage to get hold of a German add for the thing.
