This new exe allow to launch Duke Nukem 3D on Pure MS-DOS using your real 3DFX Voodoo 3 GPU !
Full GPU acceleration, expect 50-60 fps along with a decent CPU (from Pentium II 233Mhz).

1) Copy and replace DUKE3D.EXE to game folder
2) Make sure to use EMS Memory under Pure DOS
3) Run SETUP.EXE and change game resolution to 800x600 to really have all the benefits of this patch !

@TgamesFR

Can you make 3Dfx patches for Rise of the Triad? and Terminal Velocity?

I've been quietly hoping something like this would come along! A few questions.

1) I assume this only works with a Voodoo3. Will there be a Voodoo1 and Voodoo2 variant of this patch? A Voodoo2 card has a much larger reach on socket 3 systems compared to the Voodoo3.

2) Are there any plans for this patch to run at 1024x768?

3) Is there a place to download the Duke3D-Voodoo3 patch which doesn't require registering for the tgames website?

I am looking forward to trying out this patch.

You are lucky i'm already since 1 week on the Rise of the Triad port for 3DFX it should be released tonight or tomorrow ! =)

For others games i will concentrate maintly on Voodoo 1 exclusives games.
My goal is to make the Voodoo 3 the 100% compatibility card over every 3DFX patches.
And also support few "high-spec" games who need the power of the Voodoo 3 to run correctly (like Duke Nukem 3D and Screamer).

1) I only own a Voodoo 3 sadly so i can do only patch for this card and for the Voodoo 4/5 (as they use same thing).
Doing patches for Voodoo 1/2 without owning the card will be complicated and lot of bugs will not be seen by me.
Under emulation it's not perfect either for good testing as i see bugs who not exist on real hardware so there is a lot of false positives.

2) I could check a bit later, atm it support 800x600 because it's what the Atomic Version support at the maximum in his setup.

3) Atm no i prefer handle downloads from my website, as files will often be updated with bugs fixes reports.

Too bad about the lack of Voodoo2 support. It's very popular on slower systems. For the Voodoo3 patch, will the patch also work on the Banshee? I have a Cyrix MediaGX with a Banshee.

You can try anyway on the Voodoo2, it may or may not works.
For the Banshee i have no idea.
For the Voodoo Rush it should works however.

Another one to add to the test queue, at this rate you will need a site to index all these patches for the public

Edit: Have tried the patch, seems to work very well. The only odd thing to report is when you die the screen reverts to a low resolution but I didn't check to see if that also happens in the original renderer at 800x600 VESA

This... I don't get why anyone would put a V3 in anything slow enough to not run Duke at 800x600 well on a 2D card. It only takes a P166 or so and VBE 2.0 card. V1s might turn up in low Pents, or really blinged out 486.

ROTT also seems to run fast enough to me on anything you can even plug a V3 into. Or is there someone out there with a 486sx25 on a PCI board that needs it??? What is even getting accelerated, there aren't any slopes?

Terminal Velocity I would see a point to for V1

I signed up on his forum to check out those Voodoo3 patches and already downloaded Voodoo3 patched TR +TRUB executables, and guess what... Surprise, ma chère - tu viens de recevoir la version française du fichier exécutable! (this is machine translation, since I don't speak, read and write any French)

So, my English-speaking fellow forum members, pray that the Duke 3D executable doesn't have a French version too 🤣

Tomb Raider French version of the exe file does not work with English version of the game? Maybe you could try to change 040C04E4 to 040904E4.

No, it works with the data files from the English version of TR, but you get all the game menus and other things (strings) in French.

Yeah, the usage window would probably be limited to SiS 496-based socket 3 motherboards, socket 4 boards, NexGen, and socket 5 boards, however those systems would be more likely to contain a Voodoo1 or Voodoo2. It sounds like we are limited by TgamesFR not having Voodoo 1 or 2 cards. Maybe in time, the patch will evolve if TgamesFR acquires the necessary hardware.

On the other hand, doesn't glide 800x600 look far better than software 800x600? So even on faster systems, wouldn't the user benefit from a clearer image?

Well not unless you convert 256 color low res textures to 15bit high res textures I guess.

While I get the point you're making... I don't think this statement is accurate at all. Can you confirm? Even on a P200 MMX I probably only get 20-30 fps at 800x600 on Duke3d. If you want to play at anything like 60 fps you need a much faster CPU. So, it is possible that someone may have a period-accurate Voodoo 3 in a system that otherwise could not run Duke3d at 60 fps in 800x600.

My K6-2+/550 with LFB MTRR enabled is pretty smooth at 800x600 but even it gets a bit choppy in certain areas, with the 3dfx patch it's pretty much locked at 60. It's a luxury though since it's completely playable in software.

Until Pentium III 800Mhz and up, Duke Nukem 3D was not smooth in 800x600.
Even on a Pentium IV 2Ghz it struggle on some part of the game (when there is mirrors for example).
But indeed AMD processor were more able to run this game smoothed than Intel ones.

For Rise of The Triad (DOS version), my incoming 3DFX patch add the support of SVGA from 640x480, 800x600 and 1024x768. The original game only support 320 × 200 in software.
The rendering is night and day compared to software rendering version.
And if you try SVGA in software rendering it will struggle like Duke Nukem 3D. With the Voodoo 3 it's very smooth.

I know many people use V3 mostly with Pentium III/IV but me i use the V3 with a Pentium II for cost saving (not wanting buy expensive Voodoo 2 SLI).
