Seems like a really nice video card! But not for me because I want to use real CRTs.

Unless. Is it possible to support video capture later? Since it has USB. It would be really nice to capture emulated scanlines but any capture with correct (or upscaled) resolution and frame rate would do.

Someone will likely suggest HDMI capture device but I don't trust any cheap device anymore. So build-in capture support would be real nice feature.

DreamBlaster will, of course, be the one who will give an authoritative answer about what is possible on the USB front. That being said, in the meantime, if I may make what I believe is a reasonable guess , the USB controller on the RP2350 is USB 1.1, unless I am mistaken, so, even handling CGA at 320x200 in 2-bit color would seem like a stretch without real-time compression, let alone any higher color depth and/or higher resolution modes. And that is assuming there are even enough free CPU resources to theoretically allow for this.

As for decent capture devices, a used Datapath VisionRGB E1S (PCIE) is probably the best option for quality VGA and DVI/HDMI capture in full RGB (no subsampling). It used to be possible to get inexpensive ones for around 100 to 150 US$, AFAICR.

On the USB front, the Elgato Camlink 4K (DVI/HDMI capture only), might work well enough, despite it being limited to YUV422 (subsampling) processing internally. In general terms, when capturing RGB input, this can be alleviated practically entirely if the video mode captured is line doubled before being fed into the Camlink 4K's HDMI input. Depending on the output resolution (line doubling/multiplication) options available on the SerdaVision, the YUV422 limitation of the Camlink 4K may not be an issue at all. Again, Dreamblaster would be the one to ask about HDMI output options (maybe they are already published somewhere and I missed that), but I suspect that at least the lower resolutions are always linedoubled on output for HDMI/DVI compatibility reasons. EDIT: Based on [2], output can be line doubled or upscaled to higher resolution on output gor most supported modes. You will find some stills of Camlink 4K captures here [1] and likely elsewhere in the same thread, as well as E1S capture stills.

Re: VGA Capture Thread

[2]
From the specs

Output: HDMI or DVI, 640x480 at 60/70 Hz, 800x600 at 56 Hz; analog VGA via a powered HDMI2VGA dongle

EDITS: Corrected many typos. I need to sleep more. Added a reference about output modes and subsampling.

yes i think using hdmi capture device is the best option
usb has not not enough throughput

I am very excited about this project. The concept is even something I posted about, with crickets response: Fast microcontrollers as modern "implementations" of various components of retro PCs?

We are inching closer to being able to build a DOS PC using only newly manufactured components.

Have you considered other forms of digital output — for example, eDP for a laptop display?

Bit the bullet and pre-ordered one.

EDIT: Anyone one know of an FPGA or microcontroller-based x86 CPU and motherboard combo with actual ISA slots ?

EDIT2: It had been too long since I had ordered something from Serdashop. This nice little item drew me back in. Merci/Bedankt, Serge!

What the situation where you would have an ISA slot and eDP display? Custom project like conversion of a device with a broken screen to a modern display?

This is exactly what I'd like to know as well.

You might want to take a look at this guy's page: https://github.com/rodneyknaap?tab=repositories

I think he still uses some NOS ICs in his designs though, but he seems to be trying to migrate away from that.

That could be one, but I was thinking of some kind of custom XT or AT laptop build using all new components.

Is there a documented way to wire an ISA backplane into a MiSTer setup or even to a Raspberry Pi ?

EDIT: I will likely start a thread on that theme if/when I got closer to something concrete.

Imagine a project like the Book 386 or Book 8088, except refined, with a much nicer experience overall, and a design that doesn't have to rely on NOS parts.

Probably the most useless question about the monitor : when is it TOO big to be enjoyable ?

I now have an EIZO 19" 4:3 monitor, perfect. With this new card, I'd like to try 24" or maybe 32".

Before I got a retro system I played ms-dos games on my 100" projector with dosbox, it was fine
