I want to try this but I'm stuck when it comes to the 'copy the contents of your install folder'. I don't have one and the installer won't run on x64 machines as people know. How do I install the game/create the install folder? Many thanks in advance and also for creating this, it's awesome.

I can't link a folder here because reasons.. but you can either fire up dosbox, install it there, then copy the folder out. Or, you can poke around online for a prepackaged dosbox copy from an abandonware site and grab it there..

You could also just fire your ISO into your AI of choice, along with the zip of the source code off github and then ask it to extract the install folder for you...

here is what i said about visual issues
when i tested first, it was fine, now with this update, is busted

The attachment blocks.jpg is no longer available

Update: i checked thrice more, and it turns out if leaving the config of the previous version screws up with this update, deleting it fixed and it now works flawlessly.

Here's my "install" folder. Also an icon file if you like.
I used my DOSBOX install of Mechwarrior 2 to get all the needed installation files and was even able to load up my previous save game.

Hey! Thanks for that. I actually managed to sort it. I found a rather helpful guide on how to install it using DOSBox-X then used that. I've never had to install a game via DOSBox before as it's usually come bundled with the games I've bought. I appreciate the assist though and thank you again. 😀

No problem, glad you got it going. Have fun 😀

Glad to hear.

New build should late today/tomorrow. Has DX12/Vulkan support (Metal on Mac), plus some back-ported fixes from my Mercs port. I've got a "to-do" to do an OpenGL 2.1 renderer in case anyone wants to run this on XP/7 with ~2000's era GPUs. That'll be in a bit. I want to get GBL at the same level as Mech2 - weirdly Mercs might be done first.

Man, there's so many games from the 95, 98, XP era that are a pain to run on modern systems.
Here we have Mechwarrior 2 running (for me) flawlessly whereas a game like Star Wars Episode 1 racer which was "remastered" by Aspyr, a retail product, that is a piece of garbage.
The golden age of gaming has returned!

DX12/Vulkan/Metal build is up. It'll bump the OS requirements a bit. If you have older, stick to <1.1.0 for now until I work in the OpenGL 2.1 renderer.

It is a wise decision to work on the OpenGL 2.1 for older systems as some of us want to make our old PCs & laptops (during Windows XP-8.1 era) as our retro gaming rig.

My suggestion right now is to add ogg support too, but also restore the main menu music, which the windows version had, voice dialog is still missing for everything on the menus outside mission.
Also if possible have external camera remap as C button as default.

As for music, have also Nuked-SC55 as sound canvas support.

New build, has OpenGL 1.2 support, so it'll work on much older cards. XP or newer is required though. While I could get it to go older - say Win9x.. the original versions work fine already on Win9x.

I don't have an XP era machine to test on, if someone could and let me know how it works, I would appreciate it. Your GPU will still require a decent amount of VRAM though (I think 32mb or more). So the 16MB cards of the day are likely out.

Main menu music should be playing via Midi using Gravis/MT32, did you populate at least one of those folders with the needed files?

Voice dialog during the game / training should be fine? Can you give me a more specific example?
