I don't know much about virtual engines. I just know that the original games ran fine on these machines, and that these home computers still have dedicated followings, including plenty of old-school RPG fans. I'd imagine they'd be interested in a Gold Box RPG, because frankly, there aren't any MMOs available for their machines, at least none that I'm aware of. I personally started on the Macintosh where I played Pool of Radiance first and there is nothing like that available. Neither on the C64. Not sure about the Atari ST or Amiga, though. The latter has been getting flooded with games lately, which might make it harder to grab the attention of the target audience.

Is this something Claude and other AI tools could potentially help with? For example, building clients for different systems?

Hi!
I came across your Nwn Revival project and really wanted to reach out.
My own pet project actually shares some DNA with yours 😀 I’m currently developing a server emulator and client port for Dark Sun Online. The multiplayer stack for DSO was built by the exact same people (Mataga, the creator of Shamus) who worked on the multiplayer stack for NWN.
That’s why reading the Tech section on your website gave me a massive sense of deja vu. In DSO, the server basically acts as a dispatcher and a global shared state storage, while all the core logic, scripting, and calculations are handled strictly client-side. They are definitely distant relatives - a true continuity of generation from the same dev team 😀

By the way, if you don't mind, I’d love to post an announcement about your project in my DSO community! I'm sure many Dark Sun fans are also into Gold Box games and their multiplayer NWN.

Anyway, I’d be thrilled to chat and swap some notes/experience!
