hello, im quite new to your forum, but i was having a problem wich made me nuts 😁 i was hoping youll be able and be wanting to help me:

I try to run an old game (1996) on an new computer (late 2008), this pc has Vista 64 bit home Prem. on it.. The game im trying to run is Deadlock (not the sequel).. Here comes my problem: I type:

(i was following the FAQ page litterally)

Z:>mount C C:\oldgames
Drive C is mounted as local directory C:>\oldgames\

Z:\>C:

C:\cd deadlock

C:\DEADLOCK>setup.exe

C:\DEADLOCK> WIN SETUP.EXE
Illegal command: win.

So: i type ...>setup.exe,
and the computer or the program, i dont know, automaticcally puts in "win" and then it says its illegal, but i didnt want to put in win... 😖 its kinda freaking me out 😁

Anyone?

Looks like that game might be a Windows 95 program? It was, as you say, made i 1996, one year after Win95 came out. In that case, DOSBox will not help you much. Instead you need one of the virtual PC products.

wich one would you recommend (i prefer a free program)

BTW: thnaks for your answer 😁

BTW2: i was looking over the internet searching a win95 emulator but VMware and the Microsoft thingie both need an win95 CD 😖

Isn't there a way to play them without the installment of win95 on my pc??

You could try to get Win3.1 running in DOSBox. But it is rather complicated - and still not free. It will be much easier to use virtual PC emulator.

and wich 1 of the virtual pc's would you recommend (i have absolutely NO experience with these programs) like i said before i prefer a free one.

Imporant BTW: i've found a win 98SE cdrom upstairs, so i could install 98SE, are there any thing i have to know about installing an older Win version? like: not on the same partition and such?

Virtual PC 2007 is free from Microsoft. When you install 98SE inside of it, all should be safe (you won't need a separate partition, as it creates a VHD file on your hard drive that serves as a virtual hard drive -- effectively a partition inside a file).

ok.. little update...

I installed Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 and installing win 98 in it.. so far, so good 😁 then, this game wich has started this whole thing works! (yay) But.. I always want better, so I try to install Deadlock 2 (the sequel) an when I open the menu ist says Instal, Play and a few other things.. still no probs... So I click INSTALL and then my pc give the error:
Error 105

Setup is unable to find setup languages in Z:Deadlock2\setup\setup.lid

i get 2 options: ok wich leads to a shutdown of the program and Cancel wich does exactly the same 😖

I looked on the Net and there were a LOT of solutions, but none of them fits in my problem 😢 So , plz, does any1 know a solution??

Sounds like your trying to install the sequel on Vista 64bit which doesn't like the installer.

Try installing it in VPC.

If you really want to run it on Vista 64bit you'll have to copy the files from the guest to the host and probably export and import registry entries as well.

I don't mind. I can't shoot anybody in the back until they've passed me, now can I 😜
