No, Nvidia WHQL drivers support almost all of their chipsets, except 4200 and below as far as I know.

Yes, they did. You need unofficial modded INF files to install the 18x.xx drivers on the 7xxx and 6xxx series cards. I think 175.xx was the last to support (officially) 7xxx and 6xxx series.
www.laptopvideo2go.com (look at the driver downloads section on there forums for links to the modded INF files. No registration needed to download.)
185.20 beta is out too.

You tried 185.20 yet franpa?
They work, I don't have any new games though to test them on 😜

Not so sure about the IQ comments as they tend to entirely subjective and often dependant on the host system. What CPU / Chipset are you running?
Asus P5KC, can't be bothered looking up the chipset, and a core 2 duo e6750

same CPU as me 😀 I'm on an N650 though which isn't like your P965. I tried the driver and it's not that great IMHO, seems almost but not 100% complete and the texture/shader detail was noticeably lowered compared with previous versions.
Interesting, it seems they are still updtaing the 7600GT and others, for a little while yet.
I have a 6 series geforce, is it ok to install the latest geforce driver for it?

No idea. Just try it.

I tried the newest drivers on my Geforce 6200. They seemed to work except once in Hitman: Codename 47 a guard became invisible and killed me. I suppose that could have been a bug in the game.
I corrected a typo in thread's title.

196.75 drivers have been removed from the Nvidia site due to problems with fan control on select video cards.

Great. That's why I have seen an earlier version today.

I personally don't suffer the problem, while others claim to. The problem reported is the fan doesn't speed up as the card gets hotter.

It's risky to use them anyway.

Nah using fans is not risky 😉
I tried the this nvidia driver with New Vegas, I didn't notice any improvement /change with my GTX 260. Running a GTX 460 now and things like trees and shrubs don't have that screen door effect anymore. SWEET! Maybe cause I can run it on max settings now, I really don't know.
I might try new 280.26 release. Latest one was giving me lockups with Paint Shop Photo Pro X3 while hovering menus with the mouse.
285.62 WHQL drivers are out.
