Hi all.

Trying to get MicroLeague Football 4.0 running in dosbox. MicroLeague Football 97 works just fine.

This game was one of those dos/Win 95 hybrids. I can't get the game to run correctly in XP, even though I have all of the files for the game Win95 style (going into properties, stating all files are Win 95 256 colors, etc.). It ALMOST works in this mode, but he game is visually unwatchable.

Here is what I'm told if I run the game in DOS.

ERROR, you have only 59k of available conventional memory
MicroLeague Pro Football 4.0a requires at least 350K.

When I do the MEM , I am told

569 KB free conventional memory
63 KB free upper memory in 1 blocks (largest UMB 63KB)
15280 KB free extented memory
15280 KB free expanded memory

I do run loadfix once on my autoexec.

What else can I do?

Thanks in advance.

weird. You already run loadfix so I can't suggest that.
Not sure sure what is wrong

I have tried to disable both expanded and extended memory in the past. It doesn't help.

When it comes to loadfix, I only run it once, without any other text than the word 'loadfix' in the autoexec.

The funny thing is if I run it by maunally typing in loadfix a second time or more, I am actually told I have a NEGATIVE number of conventional memory free.

Any other suggestions?

Compatibility list (link to Internet Archive) has it as broken in 0.63, and even though that's an old version, could still be broken. Not a lot of info on the entry, unfortunately.

The game was released, but right after release, the company went out of business. The game is rare. I don't think Mobygames has MicroLeague Football 97 listed, does it? That was the version before 4.0.

The reason it's listed under 0.63 here is because I was the one that originally tried to get it to work.

I got MicroLeauge Football 97 to work on the latest version, but I can't get MicroLeague Football 4.0 to work.

I'm at work right now, I'll try the negative entry for loadfix later this evening.

I'll keep you posted on the progress, and thanks again.

I tried the loadfix with the negative number.

The game still takes it all as a negative.

I tried using loadfix with a positive number. the amount of conventional memory holds steady at 59k according to what the game sees.

I have also tried disabling sound and turning off EMS, and elimitated loadfix.

Disabling sound and turning off EMS did nothing.

Not having loadfix in the autoexec just increased the amount of conventional memory recognized as 124kb.

this is the ms page about loadfix (unless it works different in dosbox, but you say you use loadfix in dos not dosbox)

About loadfix
Loads a program above the first 64K of memory, and runs the program.

Syntax
Loads a program above the first 64K of memory, and runs the program.

LOADFIX [drive:][path]filename

Use LOADFIX to load a program if you have received the message "Packed file corrupt" when trying to load it in low memory.

Examples
LOADFIX C:\MOUSE\MOUSE.COM

alright.
try this:
turn umb off
and run loadfix -f before starting the game.
(dosbox has some memory loadfixed by default)

I´f that doesn't work, try "lh game.exe" with different combinations of ems and xms true/false.

If the app has a loader i don't see a reason why not to put it into high memory.
What's the point of your posting?

And try to google for "punctuation".

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I'm afraid nothing that has been suggested by you kind folks has worked.

Looks like I'll have to make a dos bootable cd or flash drive?

@wd but the game needs more memory than there is high memory available
And try google for "pedant" 😁

The game gets 630+ memory when loading low, so the reasoning is that
the detection is wrong (due to a bug in dosbox or the game). Loading it
into high memory might prevent either bug. What's exactly your problem?

It's not a DOS emulator and loadfix is "different" (how is it different by the way? Do you mean switches?) because DOSBox is awesome.

loadfix executable works as well
dosbox just allows more parameters.
