1. Motherboard-Not entirely certain(LAPTOP)Dell Inspiron 1520
2. Processor type and speed-Intel(R) Core 2Duo T555 1.83 ghz
3. Amount and type of RAM-(Uncertain of type, Laptop, but 1 gigabyte- 4. Video board w/ RAM amount and type-Nvidia Geforce 8400m GS
5. Sound board=Sigmatel High Definition Audio
6. Operating system -Windows XP Pro
7. Game name (and version, if applicable)-Strike Commander, non-voice packs non CD version.
8. Description of problem (be detailed: saying "it's jerky" doesn't help, saying "the player sprites seem to be jerky when I'm pressing any of the arrow keys" does)--Essentially all of the functions of the joystick only work in certain areas and not in others, such as in the game menu screens, I can use my joystick as a mouse, everything works, but when I start flying the controls dont work.By controls I mean the two primary axises. The only thing that does is a button that allows you to manipulate the camera by holding it and moving the joystick. So it obviously recognizes the joystick. I am uncertain what it is thats causing the problem. I am using a MS Sidewinder Force Feedback 2.
9. Reproducibility of problem (always, only once, always but only on a specific level, etc.)-Always, every time, despite tweaking of dosbox joystick options, including the timed=false , because with it true, regardless of calibration, it takes the cursor in the menu screens(Joystick or mouse) and moves all the way to one side.
10. Sound mode used-default dosbox settings for audio, default "Any soundblaster" settings for sound fx and music in Strike Commander
11. Video mode (Software, OpenGL, Direct3D, or Glide, and resolution)-Uncertain, using default video settings for dos-box.
12. Version of emulator (for VDMSound, probably 2.0.4 or 2.1.0; for DOSBox, 0.58+) .72
13. Steps already attempted to solve the problem (please say you've read the README if you haven't, and READ IT IF YOU HAVEN'T!)
I've altered almost all of the options regarding joystick settings, from type to buttonwrap. Sometimes the game wont even load under those settings, other times its just the same problem. I've read a few of the quick guides regarding the easy quick fixes. This is my first time here so I hope I'll be excused for being a complete newb. I used to be so well versed in dos, heh.

Thanks guys,
Dalamar-

try running the game with a fixed cycle count.

(e.g cycles=10000 instead of cycles=auto)
and see if the joystick then works (with both timed options) (for type I would suggest 2axis or 4axis while testing)

Water flows down the stream
How to ask questions the smart way!

Umm its on two axis and cycles=10000
the game is UBER choppy and slow and the graphics suck, and the controller does not function except in previous menus

I mean I set it up for 10000 just now. I'll try 4 axis

Oops my bad guys, the choppiness was probably due to the fact that I have like four youtube videos waiting to play at once..
doy!~ Ill check back, it still didnt fix my joystick though..

I am trying to reinstall it and it says dos doesnt have enough memory..
I changed the memsize option to like 30mb but it still gives me the same problem.

I always use 25,000 cycles with SC, runs fine at that speed. Haven't tried the joystick, though.
