Hello!
I can't get the music to work on Day of the Tentacle - CD version.
I tried downloading the patch from LucasArts, but still no go.
Is there any kind of special setting in VDMsound?
Please don't advise me on SCUMMVM, because I already tried it and it stinks.

I am sure DOTT works ok if you set up the game to use AdLib for music and SoundBlaster for the sound effects. Alternatively you can try with the command line options. If you have VDMSound set up for port 220h, IRQ 7, try:
1dott a s220/7/50
Put the command line parameters in the shortcut, if you are using the Launchpad, or call the game in a prompt with vdmsrun.bat. For the record: "a" means AdLib for music, and "s" gives the parameters for SoundBlaster.
I have the floppy version of the game and made it to the end with VDMSound. Anyway, there should be no problem with the CD version.
Finally, I will not start a debate over ScummVM. If you want to play LucasArts games with the original engines, try LEC Quick&Easy (http://quick.mixnmojo.com/). You choose how you want to run the game, with VDMS or with ScummVM, and it loads the game for you with the correct parameteres.

DOTT has a horrible bug in its AdLib detection routine that makes it fail if your computer is too fast (i.e. >400MHz or so). So whatever you do, do not choose AdLib for music. Get the Roland patch from Lucas' site and configure the game for General MIDI.
Now, another feature of DOTT is that you must *only* install the Roland patch. installing the CD patch will disable MIDI music as well, which sucks.
If the dialogue ever stops, press "." on your keyboard and it will resume.
You may also want to try DosBox (http://dosbox.cjb.net/) as well, since it does have CD-ROM support now.
Please don't advise me on SCUMMVM, because I already tried it and it stinks.
Oh.
Well, that's silly. Why do you think it 'stinks'? There a version that had some issues with SDL library and nVidia drivers, but the drivers have since been revised as has SDL.
(Really, I wouldn't push it if it was a mediocre solution, but it's honestly a lot better than the original with scale2x and 2xSaI and other nifty resolution-enhancing stuff. But hey, it's your game, I won't force you to play it my way. Well, not yet anyway. 😉)
Thank you for all the answers!
The problem is, the Roland driver suggested in Lucas Arts is for the diskette version only, so...
And SCUMMVM stinks in the sound depatment! I get horrible screeching sound effects, on opposed to VDMSound, which runs perfect regarding the sfx department.
I'm not sold on SCUMMVM yet because it doesn't have good enough support for The Dig and Full Throttle 😜 I know that's asking a lot because they're two of the newest SCUMM engine games, but still...
The scaling modes are really fast and pretty though...If only they'd use that code in DOSbox. There isn't any reason that DOSbox should go slower in 2x mode if it's using hardware-accelerated stretching, but it does so it must not be.
I think the dosbox scaling functions are actually faster than in scummvm, but scummvm runs at 15 fps and only has to update the part of the screen that changes. Which is a bit different than dosbox running at 70 fps and having to update the entire screen.
