If that doesn't help, come back with details on how you mounted your C and D drives, how you did the install, how you configured sound, music etc.

Reading the aptly named README file will be a good idea too.

I had the same problem with Warcraft 2, I couldn't start the games with my windows xp computer and I had to use DOSBox. The problem was that I didn't knew a thing about this program... eneway now I have read the post and followed the 60 seconds guide to DOSBox and that helped me a lot! I finally installed the game and I could play with it.

There is still a problem with the scrolling going way too fast but that dosent matter, I can play now... eneway, I have a new problem now 😢 ...

I closed DOSBox by closing the windows and when I try to start the game again, it can't read the cd.

I wrote 'MOUNT D C:\OLDGAMES\WAR2\' (This is the way to my game folder)
D:
DIR /W (now the options appear)
WAR2.EXE (The game start)

And then it can't read the cd, it ask me to put the cd-in.

I tried to mount the game with C (By writting 'MOUNT C C:\OLDGAMES\WAR2\')
And the cd with D (By writting' MOUNT D E:\ -t cdrom')

Then I started the game but it didn't worked either 😵

For now I can play by reinstalling the game each time I restart DOSBox but that's annoying -_-

Please help me...

Sigh.

You need to make a bin/cue image of your CD.
You mount the CD image in DOSBox using the IMGMOUNT command and you mount it inside DOSBox as the "D" drive.

After that you need to mount your virtual "C" drive.
"Mount c c:\OLDGAMES".

Then you switch to the virtual "D" drive. (Your CDROM image).
Install the game.

Then switch to your virtual "C" drive, go to the directory where the game resides.

Setup the game.
Execute the game.

Place the "IMGMOUNT" command in the "autoexec" section of your dosbox.conf so you don't have to type the command manually every time you launch DOSBox to play the game or download a DOSBox frontend such as DBGL to perform these tasks for you.

That's as close as a step-by-step as your going to get from me.

You can change the scrolling speed in the option menu.

I told you to READ and to FOLLOW the guide. I guess you did not do that. In particular, you forget about this:

Note 2: Unless you are prepared to re-install and re-configure the game, DO NOT CHANGE the way you mount the C and D drives for this particular game.

Every word I write should be treated like it was your mother that told you so. That means you should follow them unless you know better.

Hello, me again.

I have read your post minimax and dosfreak again and again and tried to follow exactly as you said but there's something I quite dont understand. You see, I tried to save the command ('MOUNT C C:\OLDGAMES\WAR 2\' ect....)
in a note pad. I wrote exactly this:
[autoexec]
mount C C:\OLDGAMES\WAR2
MOUNT D E:\ -t cdrom
C:

Then I tried to save it with the name said in the guide you brought minimax, wich is : %ProgramFiles%\DOSBox-0.72\dosbox.conf
But it didn't worked, it said it couldn't found the folder. I guessed maybe it was because instead of mounting the folder 'MyGame' I created in my documents, (Just like you said in your guide) I have mount the folder 'OLDGAMES' I have created (Found this idea in the wikkipedia tutorial).

If you,re asking me why I havent followed this step by the letter like you told me to do was because I tried many times and everytime it couldn't find the way to it, saying the folder I want does not exist (And I had no mistake in the way I wrote it).

So eneway, I tried to save the notepad with the following name: '\DOSBox-0.72\dosbox.conf' instead of : '%ProgramFiles%\DOSBox-0.72\dosbox.conf'
And it worked, it was save. Tough everytime I restart DOSBox, nothing new happen, I have to manually mount everything and also reinstall the game 😒.

I also tried to manually remount the game exaclty the same way (with C and D) as I installed it and still, I have to reinstall each time because it can't read the cd. 😢

I wonder what I'm doing wrong...

It does 🙁 DOSBox 0.72 and the configuration file are not good friends with Vista 😠

In general, Vista don't like that users muck around with stuff inside the Program folder, so it is preventing you (and Notepad) from saving the changes there. This will all change with DOSBox 0.73 😀

In the mean time you need to run Notepad with administrator privileges when changing your dosbox.conf.

OBS: Note that %ProgramFiles% refers to where ever you have your programs installed. In English version of Windows that will usually be C:\Programs, but the exact name and location varies depending on the language. The easiest way to find the dosbox.conf file is to open a Windows Explorer window and enter %ProgramFiles%\DOSBox-0.72 as the address/location.

You are not following my guide, that is what you are doing wrong.

You have 2 solutions:

1. Copy the dosbox.conf file to somewhere in your Documents folder. You can even make multiple copies and name them according to which game or configuration you want, e.g. MyGame-dosbox.conf.
   
   Next, edit your DOSBox shortcut (or make a new one, call it Run MyGame) and change the target into something like
   %ProgramFiles%\DOSBox-0.72\dosbox.exe -conf "C:\path\to\your\MyGame-dosbox.conf"
   
   Now you can edit the MyGame-dosbox.conf file with Notepad, and launch it by clicking on your new shortcut 😀
2. Install one of the DOSBox frontends that makes it a breeze to edit and create game-specific configurations.

Thanks for your quick answers minimax. No I didn't followed this part because I dont have vista, I have windows XP, and this section of the guide seemed to be for vista users. Since this is not my program, I didnt had much interrest in it...

The 'Dosbos.conf' is a file I have to create or it is already created?

Can you find where your DOSBox (dosbox.exe) is installed?
Can you find the dosbox.conf file in the same directory?
Can you open it with Notepad?
Can you save it after editing?

Yes to all of these questions! I finally found what you were talking about and add the text to the section autoexec, now everytime I open DOSBox the line are already there 😁 .

Tough it still dont read the cd and to play I have to reinstall each time I restart DOSBox. 😖
