Sorry, I know this is not the right forum to ask, as it's not a VDMSound related problem, but I'm pretty desesperate with this and couldn't find an answer anywhere else.
My problem comes when trying to run Impulse Tracker on this new machine under XP. Before you ask, I wrote the Running Impulse Tracker under Win2000/NT/XP tutorial so I know how to make it run with VDMS (and I've been running it for ages).
Then I got this new computer, did a clean reinstall, and since then, no console applications that do anything graphic-related (even text-mode) works. They completely freeze.
More details:
- EDIT hangs after showing the screen with the textfile
- IT hangs after showing the title screen with the soundcard detection
- If I start the program (IT) in fullscreen, it'll hang right after showing the main screen, without allowing me to press "enter".
- If I start it windowed, it'll allow me to press the button, then apparently hang in windowed mode, if I then switch to fullscreen, I'll see the loading screen but then it'll hang definitely
- Windows shortcut keys keep working (Alt-Tab, Ctrl+Enter, etc.)
The console itself works ok while I'm not running any applications (for what I think there's a problem with applications accessing the video-memory (b800:0000) hanging something out in Windows.
I've been trying every single option in the shortcut to the application.
My specs are:
Mobo Elitegroup K7VMA
Athlon XP1600+
1Gb RAM
SB Audigy 2 Platinum (latest Drivers)
GF4 Ti4600 128Mb RAM (latest Detonator)
Logitech Cordless Desktop Comfort (latest MouseWare and iTouch), connected on the KBC & PS/2 ports (no USB)
There are absolutely no hardware conflicts in the device manager, and everything works ok on the machine, but console applications accesing the text-mode memory directly.
Right now I'm not quite sure (and don't have any application handy to try) but it might just freeze the input while the application keeps working (i.e., mouse/keyboard not responding, but application keeping working), it's a very probable thing.
Anyway, sorry once again for not being the appropiate forum, but you guys have experience with console applications and any of you might have gone through this.
Thank you!

PS: Oh, I'm using Windows XP SP1 Spanish version with all Windows Updates (including DirectX 9.0a, which I've heard gives some problems with some console applications, may this be the problem)
