Hi all. I am using Windows 2000 SP3. When I play the game the video is fine so I know there is no problem with that. And I can even setup the sound in the setup program for it. But then when I go to test it, it says Initializing and then like 2 seconds later it says "Playback Failed, Possibly Due To An Invalid Or Conflicting IRQ" and the sound still doesn't work. I don't really know what kind of sound card I have all I know is that it is onboard because I have a HP Pavilion motherboard. Not really much else to tell you. I open the command prompt in Start > Programs > Accessories and then I load DOSDRV in it and it says loaded successfully and then I load the setup program for Shadow. There is only one menu called Sound Setup and it I can Choose Sound FX card and test it and all that. The version I have doesnt let me set up a Music card because all the music comes off the CD and i guess uses the same settings. But I have it set on Sound Blaster or compatible, 220, 5, 1, 5 and it the emulation must be working because it lets me choose voices and channels and Hz and all that and it used to say Sound Blaster could not be found on the IRQ or some message similar to that so I know the emulation is working. I don't know what the problem is so if someone can help I'd really appreciate it thanx!!

Will Not Work. Period. Hates NT. Sorry. (Run a search for BUILD engine games.)

Yes, it’s my fault.

Actually, you can get it to work. It's just that performance will be poor and it will crash from time-to- time:

Go to the Problem Children" thread and look under the BUILD post.

It involves using Cli2Nop which will decrease stability.

Well I guess i'm f**ked because I copied the 2 files to the shadow directory from the patch folder of SoundFX 2000 and got a new file and ran it with VDMsound like the thread said but still no sound. It keeps saying "Playback Failed, Possibly Due To An Invalid Or Conflicting IRQ" so now i'm going to see if it works in DOS. And if it doesn't i'll let you know. THANX

Hey I have WONDERFUL news (not)... Windows 2k won't even let you boot into DOS or restart into DOS. So I really am screwed now. I wish there was a way to get the sound to work. VDMSound says that if you can play something in Winamp you can play the sound in any game. Don't know what to do... thanx

*cough*

There IS NO DOS IN WINDOWS NT/2000/XP. That is why they are stable -- no direct hardware access! It is VIRTUALIZED. If you have some motherboard monitoring.. ah, hell, this has already been gone over like 500,000,000,000 times.
