There are quite a few of us who want this very much as shown by this three year old thread on the xfire forums.
The purpose would be to hopefully add xfire support to the numerous dos games in existence.
If any one is interested please be sure to show your support.

To my understanding, the main caveat is that the xfire devs, understandably, would like some system for xfire to detect the individual game that dosbox is running . I'd imagine the such a system would be quite feasible to add/if not already in place, as dosbox already shows what program it is running in the title bar. If any dosbox dev is interested, it would be spectacular if you could email a xfire dev or maybe vise versa. Any xfire users among us?

DOSBox doesn't show the program that is running, it just shows that executable that it launched.

For detection of games you'd have to have a hash of the executables that would would reference the name of the game, you've have to have a central server that would host the databse and you'd have to have DOSBox (or whatever app you want DOSBox to forward the info) contact this server every time it launched an executable. This isn't something the DOSBox devs would be interested in (any time soon anyway) or alot of DOSBox users (although some may like that feature as long as it can be disabled).

If the XFire community is so interested in DOSBox then it should be a simple matter for them to download the DOSBox source and create a patch. If the DOSBox devs don't like it then it doesn't matter, the XFire Community could compile their own build with the patch and provide the binary (as long as they meet the licensing requirements). What I mentioned above should be pretty simple to implement especially since it seems like they'd have the server backend to support it. (The DOSBox team does not).

That's very interesting Thanks for the info. I quoted you on the other thread for all our edification. 😀

to clarify. DOSBox doesn't know which game is being run. Only the name of the current executable.
