Hi,

I got the game "Full Throttle" installed. Works fine except that sounds stutters very much. I was reading through some threads here and tried different settings, but nothing helped at all.

Is it because of accessing the CDROM? Would it help to copy the whole CD to a HD? Is stuttering sound a common problem? Any ideas are appreciated!

thanks

David

Having no idea whatsoever what specific things you've tried (not to mention what your computer specs are), it would waste both of our time to start randomly making suggestions.

As for running the game from the hard drive, I've done it before. I doubt it's the problem, but if you want to try it then the easiest way would be to use your favorite CD burning software to make an image of the CD and then mount it to a virtual CD drive using something like Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120%, or Fantom CD. You can also try copying the files from the CD (folders and all) to an empty folder and use the SUBST command in a batch file to make the folder look like its own drive letter (I've used that method to run the game from the hard drive while in DOS before and it works).

I tried it just the other day and had the stuttering problem as well. I was able to fix it by using Sound Blaster as the sound device in the game setup program. also suggested playing with the DMA polling period options in LaunchPad, which I haven't tried yet myself (see this crispy fresh thread for details)

Hi Hunter,

thanks for the reply. I read the thread you mentioned before I posted my message.
My PC is a Dual PIII 800, 512 mb RAM, Nvidea GF2, WIn2000 and a Creative AWE64. Runns pretty stable and fast.

I tried adjusting Polling rate in the performance settings that someone mentioned in the other thread. It did not have any effect (god or bad).

I also read the compatibility list (somewhere on this weg site). Two others mentioned that they have the same problem with this game and no fixes. I guess there is no solution.

I will try mounting the CD from a HD (or just copy it), but I doubt that is the problem. In the game you can turn on/off music buffering, but it also doesn't make any difference.

Did you try using Sound Blaster (instead of Sound Blaster 2.0, Sound Blaster Pro, or Sound Blaster 16) as the sound device in the setup program? That fixed it for me, as I said before.

No problem. I would hope that there would be a better solution though, as the Sound Blaster option results in a lack of stereo sound, which I'm pretty sure the game can take advantage of.
